Legarda Ancestral House
The Legarda Ancestral House, or Legarda Mansion is the home of Dr. Alejandro Legarda and Doña Ramona Hernandez, a historic house located in San Miguel, Manila, Philippines. It was one of the first Art Deco houses in Metro Manila built in 1937. It was in 2001 that the house was converted into a restaurant called ''La Cocina de Tita Moning'' ("The kitchen of Tita Moning", "Tita Moning" being the nickname of Doña Ramona Hernandez) - an adaptive reuse for this heritage structure. Location The Legarda Ancestral house is located at 315 St. Rafael St., San Miguel, Manila. It is beside what used to be the Malacaňang Clinic, which, in turn used to be the home of General Basilio Valdes, the chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines during the term of President Manuel L. San Miguel, Manila
San Miguel is a primarily middle-class residential area of the City of Manila, and is one of the city's sixteen traditional districts. Background Much of San Miguel is located on a riverine island, separated by the mainland by the Estero de (Stream of) San Miguel, and by the Pasig River. In order to reach the district, one has to cross any of the following bridges traversing Estero de San Miguel, from west to east: Carlos Palanca Bridge, P. Casal Bridge, Nepomunceno Bridge, Arlegui Bridge, San Rafael Bridge, Chino Roces Bridge (carrying Mendiola Street), Concepcion Aguila Bridge and J.P. Laurel Bridge. P. Juan Luna de San Pedro y Novicio Ancheta (, ; October 23, 1857 – December 7, 1899) was a Filipino painter, sculptor and a political activist of the Philippine Revolution during the late 19th century. He became one of the first recognized Philippine artists. His winning the gold medal in the 1884 Madrid Exposition of Fine Arts, along with the silver win of fellow Filipino painter Félix Resurrección Hidalgo, prompted a celebration which was a major highlight in the memoirs of members of the Propaganda Movement, with the fellow ''Ilustrados'' toasting to the two painters' good health and to the brotherhood between Spain and the Philippines.
