Leganés
Leganés () is a city in the Community of Madrid, Spain. Considered part of the Madrid metropolitan area, it is located about 11 km southwest of the centre of Madrid. , it has a population of 188,425, making it the region's fifth most populated municipality. It covers an area of 43.09 km2 and it is located at 667 m over sea level. Leganés houses a branch of the Universidad Carlos III. It is connected to Madrid via the ''Cercanías'' (train, line C5), and ''Metrosur'', one of the lines of Metro. Leganés has 6 Metrosur stations. On 3 April 2004 five of the suspects in the 11 March 2004 Madrid attacks blew themselves up in an apartment building in the city as police moved in to arrest them. The 2004 Madrid train bombings (also known in Spain as 11M) were a series of coordinated, nearly simultaneous bombings against the Cercanías commuter train system of Madrid, Spain, on the morning of 11 March 2004—three days before Spain's general elections. The explosions killed 193 people and injured around 2,000. The bombings constituted the deadliest terrorist attack carried out in the history of Spain and the deadliest in Europe since 1988. The official investigation by the Spanish judiciary found that the attacks were directed by al-Qaeda, allegedly as a reaction to Spain's involvement in the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. M-50 (Spain)
The M-50 orbital motorway is the outermost ring road of Madrid and its metropolitan area. It has a length of 85 km and, unlike the other ring roads, doesn't form a closed ring, lacking a connection in the northwest between A-6 and A-1. It runs at an average distance of 13.5 km from the Puerta del Sol. Currently it is the longest beltway in the Madrid region, and may be compared with London's M25 motorway and Berlin's A10 beltway. It is managed by the central government. Its construction was financed using a shadow toll system, paid with the tolls collected from the motorways R-2, R-3, R-4 and R-5. Metrosur
Line 12, also known as MetroSur (Spanish for ''MetroSouth''), is a line of the Madrid Metro inaugurated on 11 April 2003. Line 12 is a circle line that is not in the city of Madrid, but links five suburban towns south of Madrid, serving around one million people. The towns linked by Line 12 are Alcorcón, Leganés, Getafe, Fuenlabrada and Móstoles. Despite parts of the line running through uninhabited territory, there are no above-ground sections in an effort to facilitate future urban development. Autovía A-42
The Autovía A-42 (also known as ''Autovía de Toledo'') is a Spanish autovía which connects Madrid to Toledo. It was built in the mid-1980s as an upgrade of the N-401 road between the two cities, and received the A-42 designation in 2003 as part of the general renumbering of Spanish autovías. In the mid-2000s, the Autopista AP-41 was built to supersede the A-42, though the autovía is still regularly used. Beyond Toledo, the A-42 continues through the community of Castile-La Mancha to Tomelloso as the CM-42, itself an upgrade of the CM-400.
