Lee Slonimsky
Lee Slonimsky is an American poet, Pythagorean scholar, Managing Partner of Ocean Partners LP and the Literary Executor of the Daniel Hoffman Archive, Library of Congress. Biography Lee Slonimsky is a poet and "Pythagorean" scholar, polymath and the author of nine collections of poetry whose poems have been anthologized in ''Poetry in Medicine'' and ''The Bloomsbury Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poetry'' to name a few. His poetry has appeared in places such as ''The Carolina Quarterly'', ''The New York Times'' and ''Poetry Daily''. He is the co-author with Carol Goodman, his wife and Hammett Prize novelist, of ''The Black Swan Rising'' trilogy (under the name Lee Carroll). He is a native New Yorker. A poet is a person who studies and creates poetry. Poets may describe themselves as such or be described as such by others. A poet may simply be the creator ( thinker, songwriter, writer, or author) who creates (composes) poems (oral or written), or they may also perform their art to an audience. The work of a poet is essentially one of communication, expressing ideas either in a literal sense (such as communicating about a specific event or place) or metaphorically. Pythagoras
Pythagoras of Samos ( grc, Πυθαγόρας ὁ Σάμιος, Pythagóras ho Sámios, Pythagoras the Samos, Samian, or simply ; in Ionian Greek; ) was an ancient Ionians, Ionian Ancient Greek philosophy, Greek philosopher and the eponymous founder of Pythagoreanism. His political and religious teachings were well known in Magna Graecia and influenced the philosophies of Plato, Aristotle, and, through them, the Western philosophy, West in general. Knowledge of his life is clouded by legend, but he appears to have been the son of Mnesarchus, a gem-engraver on the island of Samos. Modern scholars disagree regarding Pythagoras's education and influences, but they do agree that, around 530 BC, he travelled to Crotone, Croton in southern Italy, where he founded a school in which initiates were sworn to secrecy and lived a communal, asceticism, ascetic lifestyle. Daniel Hoffman
Daniel Gerard Hoffman (April 3, 1923 – March 30, 2013) was an American poet, essayist, and academic. He was appointed the twenty-second Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress in 1973. Early life and education Hoffman was born in New York City. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps, where he served stateside as a technical writer and as the editor of an aeronautical research journal, experiences detailed in his memoir ''Zone of the Interior.'' He was educated at Columbia University, earning a B.A. (1947), an M.A. (1949), and a Ph.D. (1956). He was a member of the Boar's Head Society there. Career In 1954, Hoffman published his first collection of poetry, ''An Armada of Thirty Whales.'' This collection was chosen by W. H. Auden as part of the Yale Series of Younger Poets, and Auden commended it in his introduction as "providing a new direction for nature poetry in the post-Wordsworthian world." Carol Goodman, also known under the pseudonym Juliet Dark, is an American professor and author of gothic fiction. She has also written under the pseudonym Lee Carroll with her husband Lee Slonimsky. Century Association
The Century Association is a private social, arts, and dining club in New York City, founded in 1847. Its clubhouse is located at 7 West 43rd Street near Fifth Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. It is primarily a club for men and women with distinction in literature or the arts. The Century Association was founded by members of New York's Sketch Club; preceding clubs also included the National Academy of Design, the Bread and Cheese Club, and the Column. Katherine Hastings is an American poet from Northern California. Her full length collections are “A Different Beauty” (Spuyten Duyvil, 2022), "Shakespeare & Stein Walk Into a Bar" (Spuyten Duyvil NYC, 2016), ''Nighthawks'' (Spuyten Duyvil NYC, 2014) and ''Cloud Fire'' (Spuyten Duyvil NYC, 2012).
