Laviolette (provincial Electoral District)
Laviolette was a provincial electoral district in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It includes the city of La Tuque and its urban agglomeration, some parts of the city of Shawinigan, and various other municipalities. It was created for the 1931 election from part of Champlain electoral district. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it gained Lac-aux-Sables and Notre-Dame-de-Montauban from Portneuf electoral district. Following the change in the 2017 electoral map, the riding was dissolved into the new ridings of Laviolette–Saint-Maurice and Champlain. It was named after the founder of Trois-Rivières in 1634, the Sieur de Laviolette. La Tuque (census Division)
La Tuque (; ) is a city located in north-central Quebec, Canada, on the Saint-Maurice River, between Trois-Rivières and Chambord. The population was 11,227 at the Canada 2011 Census, most of which live within the urban area. At over 28,000 square kilometres, it is the largest city in Canada by area. The city is known as the Queen of Haute-Mauricie. The ''Classique internationale de canots de la Mauricie'' canoeing race begins at La Tuque. Etymology The name, which dates to the eighteenth century, originates from a nearby rock formation which resembles the well-known French-Canadian hat known as the tuque. The hat-shaped mountain which gave its name to the town of La Tuque is located between the Saint-Maurice River (left bank) and the WestRock paper mill. Portneuf (provincial Electoral District)
Portneuf is a provincial electoral district in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly. It notably includes the municipalities of Saint-Raymond, Pont-Rouge, Donnacona and Neuville. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada and the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada). In the change from the 2001 to the 2011, it lost some territory to Laviolette and La Peltrie electoral districts. Champlain (provincial Electoral District)
Champlain is a provincial electoral riding in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada, which elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the eastern portions of the city of Trois-Rivières as well as Saint-Tite, Saint-Maurice and Sainte-Thècle. Its boundaries have remained the same since the 1973 election. However, the boundaries changed for the 2018 election as it gained Hérouxville, Lac-aux-Sables, Notre-Dame-de-Montauban, Saint-Adelphe, Sainte-Thècle, Saint-Séverin and Saint-Tite from Laviolette. It is named after the founder of Quebec City in 1608, Samuel de Champlain. The 1931 Quebec general election was held on August 24, 1931, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, was re-elected, defeating the Quebec Conservative Party, led by Camillien Houde. It was the third general election victory in a row for Taschereau, who had held office since 1920. The National Assembly of Quebec (officially in french: link=no, Assemblée nationale du Québec) is the legislative body of the province of Quebec in Canada. Legislators are called MNAs (Members of the National Assembly; french: link=no, députés). Mauricie () is a traditional and current administrative region of Quebec. La Mauricie National Park is contained within the region, making it a prime tourist location. The region has a land area of 35,860.05 km² (13,845.64 sq mi) and a population of 266,112 residents as of the 2016 Census. Its largest cities are Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan. The word ''Mauricie'' was coined by local priest and historian Albert Tessier and is based on the Saint-Maurice river which runs through the region on a North-South axis. Lac-Normand, Quebec
Lac-Normand is an unorganized territory in the Mauricie region of Quebec, Canada, part of the Mékinac Regional County Municipality. Most of the territory of Lac-Normand is part of the Saint-Maurice Wildlife Reserve. Toponymy Like many unorganized territories of Quebec, it is named after a body of water within its territory. The eponymous Lake Normand is located in the northwest part of the Saint-Maurice Wildlife Reserve. It is the largest lake within the reserve. The name ''Normand'' was given in 1916 first to the geographic township in honour of Louis-Philippe Normand (1863-1928), physician and politician, who was mayor of Trois-Rivières and the first French-speaking president of the Medical Council of Canada.
