Laurent Brunet
Laurent Brunet (born 1967) is a French César Award-winning cinematographer for '' Séraphine'' (2008) by Martin Provost. He is widely known for his work on the films of Raphael Nadjari. Brunet shot all five of Raphael Nadjari's feature films as well as Amos Gitai's '' Free Zone'' and Keren Yedaya's ''Or (My Treasure)'' as well as Christophe Honoré's ''The Beautiful Person''. ''The Shade'' is a 1999 film directed by Raphael Nadjari and starring Richard Edson and Lorie Marino. Nadjari's debut feature, it is a modern adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's short story "A Gentle Creature" (1876), and takes place in contemporary New York City. Plot The film tells the story of a Jewish middle aged pawnbroker who meets a mysterious woman who will become his wife without their truly knowing each other. The film begins with Simon, alone in his apartment with the corpse of his wife, Anna, who has just committed suicide. In his grief, he remembers the first time he met her, a year ago when she walked into his pawnbroker's shop in Spanish Harlem. Mysterious Anna, who seems to come from nowhere, impresses solitary Simon with her beauty, and he proposes to her on their first night out. The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in the Forum. Plot The Polonski brothers, Abe, Ben and Josh, work together in their family's fabric store on the lower east side of Manhattan. Like any other Jewish family they go to their mother's to spend the Sabbath together. But one day, Josh is shot to death in the middle of the street in front of Abe's eyes.. The film was presented in the Berlin Film Festival as a Panorama: Special presentation in 2004. Plot Michale is a woman in her mid-30s, married with a young son and working in her father's Tel Aviv accounting firm serving religious institutions. She divides her time between her child, her husband, her work and the man with whom she is having an affair. When Michale learns of the sudden death of her lover, her life is shattered.
