The Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma ( en, Academy of Cinema Arts and Techniques) is an organization that gives out the César Award. It was created in 1975, on the initiative of Georges Cravenne. Board of directors The board is made up of 50 members, with an additional 13 selected for their contributions to cinema. They handle admissions, criteria and overall management. Protests over the structure of the board came to a head in February 2020. An open letter signed by over 400 French directors and actors decried the "opaqueness" of the Board's structure and the lack of democratic governance; members of the Academy do not vote on leadership, unlike similar organizations such as Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Motion Picture Academy or the BAFTA. ''The Best Way to Walk'' (French: ''La meilleure façon de marcher'') is a 1976 French film directed by Claude Miller, his directorial debut. It stars Patrick Dewaere, Patrick Bouchitey, Christine Pascal, Claude Piéplu and Michel Blanc. Plot Marc and Philippe are two teenage summer-camp counselors at a vacation camp somewhere in the French country in 1960. Marc is very virile, while Philippe is more reserved. One night, Marc surprises Philippe dressed and made-up like a woman. From now on, he will keep on humiliating Philippe. Despite their late-adolescent rivalries and sexual confusion, each of them achieves some sort of awakening. Raoul Coutard
Raoul Coutard (16 September 1924 – 8 November 2016) was a French cinematographer. He is best known for his connection with the Nouvelle Vague period and particularly for his work with director Jean-Luc Godard. Coutard also shot films for New Wave director François Truffaut as well as Jacques Demy, a contemporary frequently associated with the movement. He shot over 75 films during a career that lasted nearly half a century. Biography Coutard originally planned to study chemistry, but switched to photography because of the cost of tuition. In 1945, Coutard was sent to participate in the French Indochina War; he lived in Vietnam for the next 11 years, working as a war photographer, eventually becoming a freelancer for ''Paris Match'' and '' Look''. ''The Toy'' (french: Le Jouet) is a 1976 French comedy-drama film directed by Francis Veber. The film was remade in 1982 as the American film '' The Toy''. Plot The movie tells the story of a little boy who is trying to prove his father wrong by acting exactly like him. His father "buys" people and nothing can stop him from getting what he wants. His son does not see why he cannot do the same and decides to buy a man, who he encountered at the toy shop. The man he chose happened to be a journalist at his father's newspaper. Gradually with the help of his “toy” the boy manages to prove his father's wrong deeds by exposing them in the newspaper produced by him and his "toy". Along this journey, the boy establishes warm relationships with the man and refuses to stay with his father any longer. The message behind the story is that love and respect matter more than money. Gerry Fisher, B.S.C. (23 June 1926 – 2 December 2014) was an English cinematographer. Biography He was born in London in 1926. Early employment by Kodak and De Havilland Aircraft was followed by service in the Royal Navy during WW II. Fisher then worked as a clapper boy at Alliance Riverside Studios, Twickenham, and as assistant cameraman on documentaries for Wessex Films, before becoming a Focus puller at Shepperton Studios. After years in this capacity on films such as ''An Inspector Calls'' (1954), he was promoted to camera operator on ''Bridge on the River Kwai'' (1957), before finally becoming director of photography on Joseph Losey's ''Accident'' (1967). He collaborated with Losey on a further seven films, including '' The Go-Between'' in 1971.
