Lachendorf
Lachendorf (West Low German: ''Lachendörp'') is a municipality in the Celle (district), district of Celle, in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approximately 10 km east of Celle. Lachendorf is also the seat of the Samtgemeinde ("collective municipality") Lachendorf (Samtgemeinde), Lachendorf. History In older records Lachendorf is mentioned under the name of ''Lachtendorp'', meaning village at the river ''Lachte''. In 1538 Ernest I, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg chose it as a proper place for a paper mill, which marks the beginning of settlement and commercial development. In 1845 the paper mill was extended to a factory, creating a remarkable amount of workspace in this agricultural region. Celle (district)
Celle () is a district (''Landkreis'') in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is bounded by (from the north and clockwise) the districts of Uelzen, Gifhorn, Hanover and Heidekreis. Geography The district is located in the southernmost parts of the Lüneburg Heath (''Lüneburger Heide''). The Aller River enters the district in the east, runs through the town of Celle and leaves the district in the northwest. It is joined by many tributaries coming from the south. Lüneburg Regional Association To look after cultural matters the Lüneburg Regional Association (''Lüneburgischer Landschaftsverband'') was founded as a registered association (''eingetragener Verein''). Heinrich Severloh
Heinrich "Hein" Severloh (23 June 1923 – 14 January 2006) was a soldier in the German 352nd Infantry Division stationed in Normandy in 1944. He became famous for a memoir ''WN 62 – Erinnerungen an Omaha Beach Normandie, 6. Juni 1944'', published in 2000. In the book, the authors claim that as a machine gunner, Severloh inflicted over 1,000 and possibly over 2,000 casualties to the American soldiers landing on Omaha Beach on D-Day. However, Severloh's claim is not viewed as credible by either US or German historians. Total US casualties (killed, wounded, and missing) from all sources along the five-mile length of Omaha Beach on D-Day are estimated at 2,400. Konstantin Viktorovich Rausch (russian: Константин Викторович Рауш, german: Konstantin Rausch; born 15 March 1990) is a former professional footballer who played as a left-back. Born in Germany, he represented the country at various youth levels before switching allegiance to the Russia senior national team. Omaha Beach was one of five beach landing sectors designated for the amphibious assault component of operation Overlord during the Second World War. On June 6, 1944, the Allies invaded German-occupied France with the Normandy landings. Platoon
A platoon is a military unit typically composed of two or more squads, sections, or patrols. Platoon organization varies depending on the country and the branch, but a platoon can be composed of 50 people, although specific platoons may range from 10 to 100 people. A platoon is typically the smallest military unit led by a commissioned officer. The platoon leader is usually a junior officer—a second or first lieutenant or an equivalent rank.
