Laban Ayiro
Professor Laban Ayiro is a Kenyan academic, currently serving as the Vice Chancellor of Daystar University, a Christian, liberal arts university based in Nairobi, the capital and largest city of Kenya. From September 2016 until March 2018, he was in acting capacity, the Vice Chancellor of Moi University, a public university, whose main campus is located in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County. Background and education He was born in the Kibera slum in Nairobi. His parents were of modest means. His father, a driver, had friends whose economic means were better. One of those friends took in the young Ayiro because (a) Ayiro was a smart student and (b) that friend has a son and Ayiro would keep the son company. Nairobi ( ) is the capital and largest city of Kenya. Education in Kenya refers to the education system in Kenya. It is considered a basic right that should be offered to every individual. Education in Kenya predates to as early as the 18th century among the Swahili people. The earliest school was established by missionaries in Rabai. During the colonial era, the number of Kenyans with exposure to education steadily increased and a good number of them were privileged to proceed abroad for further education. Kenya has manoeuvered through three education curriculums since independence with the latest being, the Competency-Based Curriculum, rolled out in 2017 to replace the 8-4-4 Curriculum that has been in practice since 1985. Uasin Gishu County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya, counties of Kenya located in the former Rift Valley Province. Moi University is a public university located in Kesses, Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county, in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya.
