The LXXXIX Army Corps (german: LXXXIX. Armeekorps) was an army corps of Germany's Wehrmacht during World War II. It was active from August 1942 until March 1945. Its commander surrendered to United States Army forces on 2 April 1945. History Formation, 1942 The LXXXIX Army Corps, also called 'Roman 89th Army Corps' (german: röm. 89. AK, link=no) in script to avoid confusion with the Roman numerals, was formed under the name ''Generalkommando Y'' on 2 August 1942 in occupied France. The corps was initially attached to 15th Army (Haase) under Army Group D (von Rundstedt). It was subsequently renamed ''Generalkommando Schelde'' on 9 August 1942, before eventually receiving the designation ''LXXXIX. Armeekorps'' on 25 October 1942. Its initial subordinate divisions were the 39th, 65th and 712th Infantry Divisions. The LXVII Army Corps (german: LXVII. Armeekorps), initially known as the LXVII Reserve Corps (german: LXVII. Reservekorps), was an army corps of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. The corps was formed in September 1942. History The LXVII Reserve Corps was formed on 24 September 1942 in Wehrkreis II. Its initial purpose was to oversee and lead reserve divisions of Oberbefehlshaber West (Army Group D). The LXXXXI Army Corps (german: LXXXXI. Armeekorps) was an army corps of Germany's Wehrmacht during World War II. It was active from August 1944 to May 1945. History The LXXXXI Army Corps was established using the staff of ''Oberfeldkommandantur 395'', the former ''Befehlshaber Saloniki- Ägäis'', on 7 August 1944. It was initially deployed in occupied Greece and occupied Serbia under Army Group E ( Löhr), which was in turn subordinate to Army Group F ( von Weichs). Between 6 and 21 March 1945, the Corps attacked the Soviets and Bulgarians in Southern Hungary from Yugoslavia in Operation Spring Awakening, but was defeated in the Battle of the Transdanubian Hills. The LXXXII Army Corps (german: LXXXII. Armeekorps) was an army corps of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. It was formed in 1942 and existed until 1945. History The LXXXII Army Corps was created on 25 May 1942 from the renamed ''Höheres Kommando z. b. V. XXXVII'', which had in turn been created on 20 October 1939 from the ''Grenzschutz-Abschnittkommando 30'' and additionally served since 1 July 1940 as ''Befehlshaber der Truppen in Holland''. The initial commander of the LXXXII Army Corps was Alfred Böhm-Tettelbach. The corps, assigned to the 15th Army under Army Group D, was originally headquartered at Aire-sur-la-Lys. Normandy Landings
The Normandy landings were the landing operations and associated airborne operations on Tuesday, 6 June 1944 of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II. Codenamed Operation Neptune and often referred to as D-Day, it was the largest seaborne invasion in history. The operation began the liberation of France (and later western Europe) and laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front. Planning for the operation began in 1943.
