Kumar Chandrak
Kumar Suvarana Chandrak or the Kumar Gold Medal is a literary award given by Kumar Trust, Ahmedabad, India since 1944. The medal is annually conferred to a Gujarati author for his contribution in ''Kumar'' magazine published by Kumar Trust. In 1950, Chandravadan Mehta refused to accept Kumar Chandrak. History The medal was established in 1944, by Yashwant Pandya, an author contributing to ''Kumar''. Niranjan Bhagat
Niranjan Narhari Bhagat (18 May 1926 – 1 February 2018) was an Indian Gujarati language poet and commentator who won the 1999 Sahitya Akademi Award for Gujarati language for his critical work ''Gujarati Sahiyta – Purvardha Uttarardha''. He was also an English poet, and had written over a hundred poems in English, most being written in the style of ''Gitanjali''. Early life Niranjan Narhari Bhagat was born on 18 May 1926 in Ahmedabad. He completed M.A. in English Literature in 1950. Career Bhagat joined L. D. Arts College as a lecturer. Later he joined Saint Xavier's College, Ahmedabad, as a professor of English in 1975 and served there until his retirement. He served as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad in 1997–98. Bhanuprasad Pandya
Bhanuprasad Moolshankar Pandya (24 April 1932 – 9 April 2022) was an Indian Gujarati-language poet and literary critic from Gujarat, India. For his contribution, he received Kumar Suvarna Chandrak (1969), Narsinh Mehta Award (2011), Kavishwar Dalpatram Award (2011), and Dhanji Kanji Gandhi Suvarna Chandrak (2016). Biography Bhanuprasad Pandya was born on 24 April 1932 in Tori, Amreli, Gujarat in an audichya sahastra Zalavadi Brahmins family to his mother Shivkunwarbahen Pandya and his father Moolshankar Pandya, a schoolteacher and principal, from whome he inherited literary bent of mind. Pandya completed his schooling in Amreli, and passed matriculation exam in 1954. Gulabdas Broker
Gulabdas Broker was a Gujarati language writer from India. He is primarily known for his short stories and one-act plays in Gujarati literature. Biography Broker was born at Porbandar on 20 September 1909. He completed his education in Gujarati and English literature from Bombay University in 1930. He briefly worked at the Bombay Stock Exchange. Later he started his writing in 1932 when he was jailed during the Satyagraha movement. His first short story collection was ''Ane Biji Vato'' ("And Other Talks"). Broker served as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad from 1973 to 1974. Harikrishna Pathak
Harikrishna Pathak is a Gujarati poet, short story writer, editor and children's writer from Gujarat, India. Life Pathak was born on 5 August 1938 at Botad (now in Gujarat, India) to Monghiben and Ramchandra. His family was from Bholad village in Ahmedabad district. He matriculated in 1956. He completed his B. Sc. from Gujarat University in 1961. He worked as a teacher at Songadh near Bhavnagar in 1961–62. In 1963, he joined Department of Revenues, Government of Gujarat as an assistant. Priyakant Premachand Maniyar (24 January 1927 – 25 June 1976) was a Gujarati poet from Gujarat, India. He published seven collections of symbolic and imagist poetry, and was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award posthumously in 1982 for ''Lilero Dhal'' (1979), a collection of love songs about Radha and Krishna. Labhshankar Thakar
Labhshankar Jadavji Thakar, also known by his pen names Lagharo and Vaidya Punarvasu (14 January 1935 – 6 January 2016), was a Gujarati poet, playwright and story writer from India. Educated in languages and Ayurveda, he taught at colleges before starting practice of Ayurveda. He had a modernist approach in literature and was heavily influenced by absurd theatre and the traditions of experimental literature. He chiefly wrote plays and poetry.
