Ushnas
Natwarlal Pandya, better known by his pen name, Ushnas (Gujarati: ઉશનસ્), was a Gujarati language poet from India. Biography He was born in Savli village near Vadodara on 28 September 1920. He studied in Mehsana, Sidhpur, Savli and Dabhoi. He completed his Bachelor of Arts with Sanskrit in 1942 and Masters in Gujarati in 1945 from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He taught at Rosery Highschool and Garda College in Navsari. He also taught at J P Shroff Arts College in Valsad. He also served as a president of Gujarati Adhyapak Sangh (Gujarati Teachers Union) in 1979. He also served as a president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad from 1991 to 1993. He died on 6 November 2011 at Valsad, Gujarat. Works ''Prasoon'' was his first collection of poems published in 1955. Trun No Grah
''Trun No Grah'' ( gu, તૃણનો ગ્રહ) is a collection of poems written in Gujarati by Natwarlal Kuberdas Pandya, better known by his pen name 'Ushnas.' The book received the Narmad Suvarna Chandrak in 1963. It is considered one of the finest works of poetry in Gujarati literature. Origin The poems in ''Trun No Grah'', written by Ushnas between 1959 and 1963, were published during this period in several literary magazines, such as ''Sanskruti'', ''Kumar'', ''Kshitij'', ''Vishwa Manav'', ''Kavilok'', ''Samarpan'', ''Manjari'', ''Akhandanand'', '' Ruchi'', and ''Milan''. ''Ashwattha'' (Gujarati: અશ્વત્થ) is a collection of poems written by Natwarlal Kuberdas Pandya, also known as Ushnas, in Gujarati. The book won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Gujarati in 1976. Ushnas Prize, also known as the Shri Ushnas Paritoshik (Gujarati: શ્રી ઉશનસ્ પારિતોષિક), is a literary award presented in Gujarat, India, by the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad (Gujarati Literary Council). Gujarati Sahitya Parishad
Gujarati Sahitya Parishad () is a literary organisation for the promotion of Gujarati literature located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It was founded by Ranjitram Mehta with the aim of creating literature appealing to all classes of society and cultivating a literary sense among the people. Many prominent people including Mahatma Gandhi and Kanaiyalal Munshi have presided over the organisation. Its headquarters, located on Ashram Road, is known as Govardhan Bhavan. It has a conference hall and library. ''Parab'' is the monthly magazine of the Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and is published on the 10th of every month. Kumar Suvarana Chandrak or the Kumar Gold Medal is a literary award given by Kumar Trust, Ahmedabad, India since 1944. The medal is annually conferred to a Gujarati author for his contribution in ''Kumar'' magazine published by Kumar Trust. In 1950, Chandravadan Mehta refused to accept Kumar Chandrak. Savli is a village near Vadodara, Gujarat in Western India.
