Korsør
Korsør is a town on Zealand, Denmark. It is located in Slagelse Municipality. Until 2007 Korsør was the seat of Korsør Municipality. The town is located west of Slagelse, north-west of Skælskør and connects to Nyborg through the Great Belt Bridge. Formerly the main ferry port from Zealand to Funen, the town of Korsør is divided into two halves by the Korsør Nor inlet, with the northern part named Halsskov. Most of the historical southern part of Korsør (Korsør proper) is low-lying and prone to flooding. Culture The Korsør Biograf Teater, which opened in August , is the world's oldest movie theater in continuous use that is still operating. Slagelse Municipality
Slagelse Municipality is a municipality ( Danish: '' kommune'') in Region Zealand on the west coast of the island of Zealand (Danish: ''Sjælland'') in Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 571 km². The municipality borders Kalundborg Municipality to the north, Sorø Municipality to the north-east, Næstved Municipality to the south-east and connects to Nyborg Municipality via the Great Belt Bridge. The main city and the site of the municipal council is the city of Slagelse. The mayor has since 2017 been John Dyrby Paulsen, a member of the Social Democratic political party. Korsør Municipality
Until January 1, 2007 Korsør Municipality was a municipality (Danish: '' kommune'') in the former West Zealand County, on the southwestern coast of the island of Zealand, in eastern Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 74.25 km2, and had a total population of 20,873 (2006). Its last mayor was Flemming Erichsen, a member of the Social Democrats. Korsør Municipality bordered Skælskør Municipality to the south, Hashøj Municipality to the east and Slagelse Municipality to the north. It connected to Nyborg Municipality through the Great Belt ferries. To the west was the Great Belt (''Storebælt''), the strait that separates Zealand and the island of Funen peninsula. Tårnborg (or Taarnborg), from 1671 until 1841 known as Dyrehavegaard, is a former manor house in Korsør, Slagelse Municipality, Denmark. The buildings are now part of Hotel Comwell Grand Park. The Neoclassical main building from 1803 and the manager's house () from 1843 were listed on the Danish registry of protected buildings and places in 1982. History Origins Tårnborg was originally the name of a small fortified town whose fortifications were most likely constructed by Svend Grathe in the middle of the 12th century. After Svend Grathe's death, Tårnborg Castle was part of Valdemar I's crown land but lost its military importance when Korsør Castle was built. Great Belt Bridge
The Great Belt Bridge ( da, Storebæltsbroen) or Great Belt fixed link ( da, Storebæltsforbindelsen) is a multi-element fixed link crossing the Great Belt strait between the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen. Slagelse
Slagelse () is a town on Zealand, Denmark. The town is the seat of Slagelse Municipality, and is the biggest town of the municipality. It is located 15 km east of Korsør, 16 km north-east of Skælskør, 33 km south-east of Kalundborg and 14 km west of Sorø. History Slagelse has been inhabited since at least the Viking Age, where it was a Pagan site. Trelleborg, a ring castle, was built near the current location of Slagelse in 980, which made the location strategically important. A church was built at Slagelse's current location in the 1000s. John Dyrby Paulsen (born 12 July 1963) is a Danish politician. He is a member of the party Social Democrats, and is the current mayor of Slagelse Municipality. Hedevig Johanne Bagger
Hedevig Johanne Bagger (November 1740- May 4, 1822) was a Danish inn-keeper and postmaster. Biography She was born the port of Korsør in Sorø, Denmark. She was the daughter of merchant Rasmus Langeland (1712–80) and Anne Marie Jensdatter (1714–78). Her father ran a successful business as co-owner of the ferry connection to Funen. Her brother Jens Christian Langeland (1737-1770) was later mayor and customs officer in the city. She was married in 1761 to Marcus Marcussen Bagger who was the estate manager at the main farm Saltø near Næstved. Her husband died at the age of 44 in February 1770 and her brother later that same year. She bought one of Korsør's larger guesthouses which within a few years was expanded into an inn.
