Ko Cossaar
Jacobus Cornelis Wijnandus Cossaar (Amsterdam, 8 August 1874 – The Hague, 25 November 1966) was a Dutch painter working under the name Ko Cossaar. He was a member of the Pulchri Studio in The Hague. Cossaar started his professional career as a theatre stage decorator/artist while still a teenager. He subsequently developed himself into a well-rounded painter known for his church and harbor scenes as well as landscapes. During his 8 years in England he painted numerous scenes in and around London and Yorkshire, including church settings and coastal landscapes. He went on to paint the most notable churches of France, Italy and Holland, using his sense of perspective learned while painting his early stage backdrops. Pulchri Studio
Pulchri Studio (Latin:"For the study of beauty") is a Dutch art society, art institution and art studio based in The Hague ('s-Gravenhage), Netherlands. This institute began in 1847 at the home of painter Lambertus Hardenberg. Since 1893 the club has its residence in the villa at Lange Voorhout in The Hague. Membership is made up of painters, sculptors, photographers and art lovers, with members selected by a committee. An artist's membership allows themt to exhibit their own works in the galleries of the Company. Guests have to be invited by members. Onze Kunst Van Heden
Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum. Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum () is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. The museum is located at the Museum Square in the borough of Amsterdam South, close to the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and the Concertgebouw.
