Khartoum Stadium
The Khartoum International Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Khartoum, Sudan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 23,000 people. It is also the home stadium of the Sudanese national football team and of the club Al Ahli SC Khartoum. In 2010, it was renovated for the 2011 African cup of nations championships . History The stadium was inaugurated in 1957 under the name of Municipal Stadium to host the first African football competition of nations, the 1957 African Cup of Nations. Khartoum
Khartoum or Khartum ( ; ar, الخرطوم, Al-Khurṭūm, din, Kaartuɔ̈m) is the capital of Sudan. With a population of 5,274,321, its metropolitan area is the largest in Sudan. It is located at the confluence of the White Nile, flowing north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile, flowing west from Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The place where the two Niles meet is known as ''al-Mogran'' or ''al-Muqran'' (; English: "The Confluence"). From there, the Nile continues north towards Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. Al Khartoum SC
Khartoum National Club is a football club based in Khartoum, Sudan. They play in the top level of Sudanese professional football, the Sudan Premier League. Their rivals are Ahli Al Khartoum. Al Khartoum is one of the elite Sudanese football teams that has been playing in the top tier of Sudanese football constantly since their promotion in 1996. They were previously known as Al Khartoum 3 which is the neighbourhood the team was founded in. Al Khartoum was the first team to ever represent the Khartoum 3 district as most teams were representing Omdurman. Sudan National Football Team
The Sudan national football team ( ar, منتخب السودان الوطني لكرة القدم) represents Sudan in international football and is controlled by the Sudan Football Association, the governing body for football in Sudan. 1957 African Cup Of Nations
The 1957 African Cup of Nations was the first edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the football championship of Africa ( CAF). Hosted by Sudan, participating teams were Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia. Overview South Africa was drawn to play Ethiopia in the semi-finals, but were disqualified due to apartheid. Ethiopia therefore had a bye to the final, whilst in the other semi-final at Municipal Stadium in Khartoum, the Egyptians beat the host nation 2–1. In the final, Egypt beat Ethiopia 4–0, with all four goals scored by El-Diba, who finished the tournament as top scorer with five goals. Only two games were played in this first edition. The 1970 African Cup of Nations was the seventh edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the soccer championship of Africa ( CAF). It was hosted by Sudan. 2011 African Nations Championship
The 2011 African Nations Championship was the second edition of the African Nations Championship tournament. Each participating nation was represented mostly by players who play in their respective local divisions. The competition was hosted in Sudan from February 4 to 25, 2011.
