Kensington Dollshouse Festival
The Kensington Dollshouse Festival, formerly the London Dollshouse Festival, is a biannual festival held at Kensington Town Hall in London for the showcase of dollhouse miniatures, founded in 1985 by Caroline Hamilton. It is considered one of the most important dolls' house festivals in Europe. The festival has a summer and a Christmas show, and over 170 exhibitors participated in the 2012 and 2018 festivals. By 2012, former ballet dancer Charlotte Stokoe was the event's chair. In 2016 the festival gave out a 'Perfection in Miniatures Award,' sponsored by Ahmed Al-Thani, a member of the Qatari ruling dynasty. Kensington Town Hall, London
Kensington Town Hall is a municipal building in Hornton Street, Kensington, London. It is the headquarters of Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council. History The building was commissioned to replace the old town halls of Kensington and Chelsea following the amalgamation of the two boroughs to form the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in 1965. After both the old town halls had been rejected as inadequate for the council's needs, civic leaders decided to procure a new facility; the site selected for new building in Hornton Street had previously been occupied by two large residential properties: Niddry Lodge and the Red House. The construction work, which was undertaken by Taylor Woodrow Construction at a cost of £11.6 million, started in 1972. The architect, Sir Basil Spence, who had been commissioned to design the building in the Brutalist style, died just 10 days before the building was completed on 29 November 1976. A dollhouse or doll's house is a toy home made in miniature. Since the early 20th century dollhouses have primarily been the domain of children, but their collection and crafting is also a hobby for many adults. English-speakers in North America commonly use the term ''dollhouse'', but in the United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries the term is ''doll's house'' (or, less commonly, ''dolls' house''). The House of Thani ( ar, الثاني , translit=Al Thani) is the ruling family of Qatar, with origins tracing back to the Banu Tamim tribal confederation. History and structure The Al Thanis can be traced back to Mudar bin Nizar. The tribe were settled at Gebrin oasis in southern Najd (present-day Saudi Arabia) before they moved to Qatar.
