Karla Kienzl
Karla Kienzl (born Karoline Hauser, sometimes listed as Carla Kienzl; 21 October 1922 – 2 September 2018) was an Austrian luger who competed during the 1950s. She won the gold medal in the women's singles event at the FIL World Luge Championships 1955, 1955 FIL World Luge Championships in Oslo, Norway. Karla Kienzl was the first FIL World Luge Championships, World champion in luge in this event. Kienzl also won three medals in the women's singles event at the FIL European Luge Championships, European luge championships with one gold (FIL European Luge Championships 1951, 1951) and two silvers (FIL European Luge Championships 1954, 1954, FIL European Luge Championships 1955, 1955). Kienzl's husband Fritz Kienzl was a European champion in Luge. Karla and Fritz had two children, Wolfgang and Michael. Karla Kienzl died on 2 September 2018 at the age of 95. Luge
A luge is a small one- or two-person sled on which one sleds supine (face up) and feet-first. A luger steers by using the calf muscles to flex the sled's runners or by exerting opposite shoulder pressure to the seat. Racing sleds weigh for singles and for doubles. Oslo

FIL European Luge Championships
The FIL European Luge Championships, part of the International Luge Federation (FIL) have taken place since 1914. From 1914 to 1934, these championships were part of the Internationaler Schlittensportsverband (ISSV - International Sled Sport Federation in ).
