Kanti Madia
Kanti Madia (or Kanti Madiya) was an Indian actor, director, producer and playwright from Gujarat, India. He established the Natyasampada theatre company, and directed more than 30 plays. He is particularly known for directing the Gujarati film '' Kashino Dikro'' (1979), his only film. Biography Kanti Madia was born on 7 March 1932 into a Jain family in the former princely state Lathi. In 1948, he entered in Bhavan's College, Mumbai where he won prizes for acting and directing. In 1952, he started his career in theatre. His first one-act play ''Raakhna Ramakada'' became instant hit. In 1959, he established Bohemians theatre company. Although he received many offers from Bollywood, he directed only one film, '' Kashino Dikro'' (1979), which he adapted from the Gujarati short story, ''Dariyav Dil'', written by Vinodini Nilkanth. Kashino Dikro
''Kashino Dikro'' () is a 1979 Indian Gujarati film directed by Kanti Madia. Being the first and the only film of Madia, it starred Rajiv, Ragini, Rita Bhaduri, and Pranlal Kharsani. The film was produced by Cine India International. Adapted from Vinodini Nilkanth's short story ''Dariyav Dil'', film's script and dialogues were written by Prabodh Joshi. Barun Mukherji was a cinematographer. The film features music composed by Kshemu Divetia, who earned State Films Award in Best Music Director category for the film. Plot Kashi (Ragini) raises her brother-in-law (Rajiv), who dies on his wedding night from snakebite. His widowed wife Rama (Bhaduri) get raped by Kashi's husband, and she becomes pregnant. Kashi decides to save her family's as well as Rama's honour by pretending to be a pregnant herself, and later adopts Rama's son as her own. In the end, Kashi dies. Vinodini Ramanbhai Nilkanth (9 February 1907 – 29 September 1987) was a Gujarati writer, translator, and academic. She wrote novels, essays, short stories, journalist columns, and children's literature. Early life Vinodini Nilkanth was born in Ahmedabad, then part of the Bombay Presidency. Her father was Ramanbhai Nilkanth, a Gujarati novelist and politician. Her mother, Vidyagauri Nilkanth, was a social reformer and educator, and one of the first women in Gujarat to graduate from university. Rita Bhaduri (4 November 1955 – 17 July 2018) was an Indian film and television actress.she has also work in Gujarati cinema. Career She initially appeared as supporting actress in various Bollywood films during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. She was most known for ''Sawan Ko Aane Do'' a 1979 Rajshri Productions film and ''Raja'' (1995) for which she received a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. ''Malgudi Days'' is an Indian television series that started in 1986, and was filmed in both English (first 13 episodes) and Hindi (all 54 episodes), based on the 1943 short story collection of the same name by R.
