Kansas Newman College
Newman University is a private Roman Catholic university in Wichita, Kansas. It is named for John Henry Newman and was founded by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ in 1933. History The college was founded in 1933 by the Adorers of the Blood of Christ as Sacred Heart Junior College. Courses were offered for women only, initially offering degrees in home economics, nursing, teaching, and secretarial science. In 1950, the college becomes a four-year institution and renamed to Sacred Heart College. The college added more facilities and courses during the 1950s and began accepting male students on a limited basis in 1958 in evenings and summer. The school became fully coeducational in 1965 and was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary schools in 1967. Heartland Conference
The Heartland Conference was a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division II level, which was founded in 1999. The majority of members were in Texas, with additional members in Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. The conference office was located in Waco, Texas. Ponka-We Victors (born July 7, 1981, in Ponca and Tohono O'odham) is a community support worker from Wichita, Kansas, who has been a Democratic member of the Kansas House of Representatives, representing District 103, since 2011. She is one of three Native Americans in the Kansas legislature. Background Victors is a member of the Ponca and Tohono O'odham tribes of Native Americans, and a lifelong resident of Wichita. Clare Vanderpool
Clare Vanderpool (born 1965) is an American children's book author living in Wichita, Kansas. Her first book, ''Moon Over Manifest'', won the 2011 Newbery Medal, becoming the first debut author to achieve the feat in thirty years. She is also the first Kansas native to win the Newbery Medal. Vanderpool is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Her book ''Navigating Early'' was named a 2014 Printz Honor Book. Rick Roder is an author, editor, consultant, and educator specializing in baseball rules and umpiring. He attended the Joe Brinkman Umpire School in 1987 and was a professional umpire from 1987 to 1996. His umpiring experience included the Pioneer League (1987), Midwest League (1988-1989), Texas League (1990 and 1992), Southern League (1991), Pacific Coast League (1993), International League (1994), and American Association (1995-1996). He was the head rules instructor at the Brinkman school from 1990 to 1995 and co-authored the only complete re-write of baseball's professional rules (commonly known as the "Jaksa/Roder Manual") with fellow instructor Chris Jaksa. The Kansas Court of Appeals is the intermediate-level appellate court for the U.S. state of Kansas. History The Kansas Legislature created the first Kansas Court of Appeals in 1895, to help the Kansas Supreme Court with an increasingly heavy caseload.
