Kangongo, Namibia
Kangongo (1.093 m above sea level) is a settlement on the Eastern banks of the Okavango River in the Kavango East Region, Namibia, 156 km east of Rundu along the Trans-Caprivi Highway. Kangongo has a population of about 5000 inhabitants. History The easternmost kingdom of the five Kavango domains, Hambukushu, is deeply entwined with the rich history of Kangongo. Though there are plenty of prospects in labor, forestry, and agriculture, Kangongo has seen little investment since Namibia won independence in 1990, despite its historical significance. The hamlets that encircle the main village each provide something unique to the rich cultural fabric of Kangongo. Villages and settlements in Namibia are distinguished by the status the Government of Namibia has vested in them: Places in Namibia that are governed by a village council are ''villages'', they are the smallest entities of local government. Divundu
Divundu (1.090 m above sea level) is a village on the south-eastern banks of the Okavango River in the Kavango East Region, Namibia, east of Rundu. Divundu has a population of around 5,430 inhabitants and is homestead of the local Mbukushu kings. On the opposite, north-eastern banks of the river lies Kakutji in Angola, and the two settlements are linked via a nearby border post. Politics Divundu is governed by a village council that has five seats. Athanasius Ndjamba Maghumbo is the CEO of Divundu Village Council (DVC). SWAPO won the 2015 local authority election and gained four seats (631 votes). The remaining seat went to the All People's Party (APP) with 68 votes. A sister city or a twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties. Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Road
The Walvis Bay-Ndola-Lubumbashi Development Road (previously ''Trans-Caprivi Corridor'' and until 2004 ''Trans-Caprivi-Highway'', accessed on 27 August 2014.) runs from Walvis Bay, through Rundu in north eastern Namibia, along the Caprivi Strip to Katima Mulilo on the Zambezi River, which forms the border between Namibia and Zambia. The Katima Mulilo Bridge spans the river to the Zambian town of Sesheke from where a recently upgraded paved road runs to Livingstone (the M10 Road) joining the main north–south highway to Lusaka, connecting onwards to the Copperbelt. The Trans-Caprivi highway is a section of the Walvis Bay Corridor, a trade route linking land-locked Zambia (and neighbouring countries such as DR Congo, Malawi and Zimbabwe) to the Walvis Bay port on the Atlantic Ocean. Regions Of Namibia
Namibia uses regions as its first-level subnational administrative divisions. Since 2013, it has 14 regions which in turn are subdivided into 121 constituencies. Upon Namibian independence, the pre-existing subdivisions from the South African administration were taken over. Since then, demarcations and numbers of regions and constituencies of Namibia are tabled by delimitation commissions and accepted or declined by the National Assembly. In 1992, the ''1st Delimitation Commission'', chaired by Judge President Johan Strydom, proposed that Namibia should be divided into 13 regions. Rundu
Rundu is the capital and largest city of the Kavango-East Region in northern Namibia. It lies on the border with Angola on the banks of the Kavango River about above sea level. Rundu's population is growing rapidly. The 2001 census counted 36,964 inhabitants; and for the 2011 census it has climbed to 63,430. History In 1936, it became the seat of the local governor as it replaced Nkurenkuru as capital of the Kavango district. The town has since grown into a multilingual city of the Kavango region by then now is for Kavango East and only recently its official status was changed to that of a town.
