Divundu
Divundu (1.090 m above sea level) is a village on the south-eastern banks of the Okavango River in the Kavango East Region, Namibia, east of Rundu. Divundu has a population of around 5,430 inhabitants and is homestead of the local Mbukushu kings. On the opposite, north-eastern banks of the river lies Kakutji in Angola, and the two settlements are linked via a nearby border post. Politics Divundu is governed by a village council that has five seats. Athanasius Ndjamba Maghumbo is the CEO of Divundu Village Council (DVC). SWAPO won the 2015 local authority election and gained four seats (631 votes). The remaining seat went to the All People's Party (APP) with 68 votes. SWAPO also won the 2020 local authority election, obtaining 433 votes and gaining three seats. Raphael Dinyando
Raphael Nakare Dinyando (2 August 1960 – 4 September 2013) was a Namibian politician and diplomat. Born in Divundu in 1960, Dinyando attended Rundu Secondary School in Rundu in northern Namibia. He studied at the University of Zululand in South Africa from 1982 to 1985 and graduated with a Diploma in Local Government and Administration. He was a SWAPO activist since 1986. He served as first mayor of Rundu from 1993 to 1998, and then until 2000 as vice-chairperson of the Town Council. He became Member of Parliament on a SWAPO ticket on 21 March 2000. During his second term in Parliament from 2005 to 2010 he served as Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting. In 2010 he was appointed Namibian ambassador to Austria. Dinyando was married with four children. He died of cancer at 53 years of age in Vienna. Kavango East
Kavango East is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital is Rundu, its governor is Bonifatius Wakudumo. The Region was created in 2013 when the Kavango Region was split into Kavango East and Kavango West. The only self-governed settlements in Kavango East are the capital Rundu and the village of Divundu. The region contains the western half of the Caprivi Strip. In the north, Kavango East borders the Cuando Cubango Province of Angola, and in the south and southeast the North-West District of Botswana. Mukwe Constituency
Mukwe is a constituency in the Kavango East region of Namibia. The district centre is the settlement of Mukwe. It had a population of 27,690 in 2011, up from 27,250 in 2001. The constituency contains the major settlements of Bagani, Kangongo and Divundu, and a number of small populated places such as Andara and Diyogha. the constituency had 16,678 registered voters. There is a bilateral agreement with Angola to allow mutual near-border immigration without travel documents. This applies to a maximum distance of 30 km, it is not valid for tourists. Namibia uses regions as its first-level subnational administrative divisions. Since 2013, it has 14 regions which in turn are subdivided into 121 constituencies. Upon Namibian independence, the pre-existing subdivisions from the South African administration were taken over. Since then, demarcations and numbers of regions and constituencies of Namibia are tabled by delimitation commissions and accepted or declined by the National Assembly. In 1992, the ''1st Delimitation Commission'', chaired by Judge President Johan Strydom, proposed that Namibia should be divided into 13 regions. The Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) is a political party in Namibia. It was founded by Panduleni Itula in August 2020. 2020 Namibian Local And Regional Elections
Local and regional elections were held in Namibia on 25 November 2020 to elect new local and regional councils. The previous round of elections was held in 2015 and won by the ruling SWAPO party. Electoral system Elections for regional councils are held using the first-past-the-post electoral system. Voters in each constituency elect one councillor to represent them on their regional council. Local authority councillors are elected by a system of proportional representation. Local authority candidate lists have affirmative action requirements for women. The All People's Party (APP) is a political party in Namibia. Registered with the Electoral Commission of Namibia in January 2008, the party was initially made up primarily of former members of the Congress of Democrats and SWAPO political parties. Among the initial leaders were Chairperson Ignatius Shixwameni and Deputy Chairperson Stephanus Swartbooi. Ignatius Shixwameni, who had led the party since 2009, died on 10 November 2021.
