Kamakhya, Guwahati
Kamakhya is a locality in Guwahati, Assam, which is from the Guwahati Airport and about 6 km from Guwahati Railway Station, it also has own railway junction called Kamakhya Junction. Kamakhya is known for presence of ancient Kamakhya Temple in Nilachal pahar or hill. Ambubachi Mela held here annually attracts pilgrimage from other parts of country as well as from abroad. In February 2012, this area came into limelight with the discovery of rock cut caves built during the reign of Kamarupa king Mahendra Varman. Guwahati (, ; formerly rendered Gauhati, ) is the biggest city of the Indian state of Assam and also the largest metropolis in northeastern India. Guwahati railway station (Station code: GHY) is located in the heart of the city of Guwahati, Assam. It is the first fully solar-operated railway station in India. Kamakhya Temple
The Kamakhya Temple at Nilachal hills in Guwahati, Assam is one of the oldest and most revered centres of Tantra, Tantric practices. The temple is the center of the ''Kulachara Tantra Marga'' and the site of the Ambubachi Mela, an annual festival that celebrates the menstruation of the goddess. Ambubachi Mela
The Ambubachi Mela () is an annual Hindu mela (gathering) held at Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. This yearly mela is celebrated during the monsoon season that happens to fall during the Assamese month '' Ahaar'', around the middle of June when sun transit to the zodiac of Mithuna, when the Brahmaputra river is in spate. During this time Brahmaputra River near the temple turns Red for three days. Ambubachi Mela is the celebration of the yearly menstruation course of goddess Kamakhya. It is believed that the presiding goddess of the temple, Devi Kamakhya, the Mother Shakti, goes through her annual cycle of menstruation during this time stretch. Kamarupa
Kamarupa (; also called Pragjyotisha or Pragjyotisha-Kamarupa), an early state during the Classical period on the Indian subcontinent, was (along with Davaka) the first historical kingdom of Assam. Beltola
Beltola is a prime residential area in the southern part of Guwahati, Assam. Mythical sources claimed that the word Beltola comes from the word Bilvapatra, which means leaves of Bael tree, used in religious ceremonies. It was said that in olden day's large quantities of Bael tree leaves were sent to Kamakhya Temple to be used in rituals. It was from that time the place is called as Beltola. Chandmari
Chandmari is one of the oldest localities of Guwahati, Assam, India. Situated towards the eastern side of the city.
