Köniz
Köniz (, ) is a statistical town, however considers itself still as a village, and a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district right on the southern border to Bern in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. The municipality of Köniz as a single settlement would belong to the 15 most populous towns in Switzerland. It is also part of the larger agglomeration of Bern of about 400,000 inhabitants. The official language of Köniz is (the Swiss variety of Standard) German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect. History The current municipality has long been inhabited; there have been a number of Bronze- and Iron Age finds, as well as Roman villas (''villae rusticae'') and Early Middle Ages graveyards. The oldest parts of the current reformed parish church (formerly SS. Peter and Paul) date back to around 1100. Bern-Mittelland (administrative District)
Bern-Mittelland District in the Canton of Bern was created on 1 January 2010. It is part of the Bern-Mittelland administrative region, and is the only district in the region. It contains 75 municipalities with an area of and a population () of . It is made up of the valley of the rivers Aare and Emme, some of the foothills of the Bernese Alps, as well as the plain around the capital Bern, and has many small farms and hilly forested regions with small to mid-sized towns scattered throughout. It is perhaps best known by foreigners and visitors for the Emmental. Wald is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History In January 2004 it incorporated the two independent municipalities of Zimmerwald and Englisberg. *Englisberg, population: 201 *Zimmerwald, population: 870 Englisberg is first mentioned in 1166 as ''Endlisperc''. Wahlern
Wahlern is a former municipality of the canton of Bern in Switzerland and seat of the Bern-Mittelland administrative district. On 1 January 2011, the former municipalities of Wahlern and Albligen merged in the new municipality of Schwarzenburg. Geography The municipality is called ''Wahlern'', although the chief settlement shares the name of the administrative district, Schwarzenburg. Muri bei Bern is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Muri is first mentioned in 1180 as ''Mure'' while Gümligen appears in 1239 as ''Gumelingen'' or ''Gumlingin'' Archaeological finds at Schlosshügel, unearthed in 1832, show that Muri was already settled in the era of the Roman Empire. Oberbalm
Oberbalm, is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Oberbalm is first mentioned in 1228 as ''Balmes''. The village grew up around a medieval pilgrimage site. It was part of the lands of the counts of Laupen-Sternberg, who lived in a castle near Oberbalm above the Scherliau river. In 1388, Bern acquired rights over the region, and Oberbalm became part of the Bernese court of Sternberg. It remained a part of Sternberg until 1803 when it became part of the Oberamt of Bern. In 1831 the Oberamt was dissolved and Oberbalm was transferred to the successor Amtsbezirk of Bern. The counts founded and supported the village church of St. Sulpitius, which was built before 1215 and first mentioned in 1228 in the Lausanne Chartular. Neuenegg
Neuenegg is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Neuenegg is first mentioned in 1228 as ''Nuneca''. In 1235 it was mentioned as ''Nuwenegge''. During the Middle Ages, Neuenegg was part of the ''Herrschaft'' of Laupen. In 1324, the entire ''Herrschaft'' was acquired by Bern. Neuenegg was one of the six courts of the new Bernese bailiwick of Laupen. Initially the court was held in the church yard, then it moved to the village pub. In 1339, during the Battle of Laupen, the Bernese and Swiss Confederation forces deployed on the Bramberg hill near Neuenegg. Kehrsatz
Kehrsatz is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. History Kehrsatz is first mentioned in 1281 as ''Kersaz''. The oldest trace of a settlement in the area are some La Tène graves which were discovered under Zimmerwaldstrasse 27. During the Roman era there was a well developed village of Gallo-Roman farm houses at the Maygut - Breitenacker area. A horde of Roman coins was also discovered in the Gurtental. Prijepolje ( sr-cyr, Пријепоље, ) is a town and municipality located in the Zlatibor District of southwestern Serbia. As of 2011 census, the town has 13,330 inhabitants, while the municipality has 37,059 inhabitants. Etymology One possible meaning of the name Prijepolje is "Prija's field", where Prija is the owner of ''polje'', the "field" in English. However, a more likely theory is that the name originates from the location of Prijepolje and its relationship to the travels of caravans. When those caravans were passing through the area which would become Prijepolje, they would arrive at the settlement "before the fields", where the present day neighborhoods of Ivanje and Velika Župa are located.
