Kuens (; it, Caines ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in South Tyrol in northern Italy, located about northwest of the city of Bolzano in the Passeier Valley. History In the early eighth century, Kuens became the site of a small monastery founded by Saint Corbinian, who had been struck by the area's beauty on the second of his journeys to Rome. He bought some properties and planted vineyards and orchards and considered the area a "spiritual homeland", so much so that he chose it as the site for his burial. Passeier Valley
The Passeier Valley (german: Passeier or ; it, Passiria or Val Passiria ) is the valley of the Passer river, in the mountains of South Tyrol, northern Italy. The Passer river is a left-bank tributary to the Adige. At the mouth of the valley, where the two rivers join, stands the town of Merano. From there, the valley runs north to the Timmelsjoch mountain pass, which leads to Sölden in the Ötztal valley of Austria and to the Jaufenpass which leads to Sterzing in the Wipptal. Schenna (; it, Scena ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in South Tyrol in northern Italy, located in the Passeier Valley, about northwest of the city of Bolzano. Bolzano
Bolzano ( or ; german: Bozen, (formerly ); bar, Bozn; lld, Balsan or ) is the capital city of the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy. Corbinian
Saint Corbinian ( la, Corbinianus; french: Corbinien; german: Korbinian; 670 – 8 September c. 730 AD) was a Frankish bishop. After living as a hermit near Chartres for fourteen years, he made a pilgrimage to Rome. Pope Gregory II sent him to Bavaria. His opposition to the marriage of Duke Grimoald to his brother's widow, Biltrudis, caused Corbinian to go into exile for a time. His feast day is 8 September. The commemoration of the translation of his relics is 20 November. Life Corbinian was born and baptized as Waldegiso at Châtres, near Melun, in Frankish territory. He was named after his father, who may have died when Corbinian was an infant. Soon after his father's death, his mother Corbiniana renamed Waldegiso to "Corbinian", after herself.
