Kuemper Catholic School System
Kuemper Catholic School System is a private, Roman Catholic PK-12 school in Carroll, Iowa. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux City. It includes the elementary/middle school division and Kuemper Catholic High School, held in four buildings. History The roots of Kuemper Catholic School go all the way back to 1874 with the Mt. Carmel parish began a small pioneering Catholic school. By 1916, each of the 12 area parishes surrounding Carroll built their own Catholic grade school, and eventually Catholic high schools were also established in Breda, Mt. Carmel, Templeton, and Vail. Fr. Joseph Kuemper (1855-1923) left his mark and an important legacy on Carroll county's 20th century history. St. Bernard High School in Breda consolidated into Kuemper High in 1979. Carroll, Iowa
Carroll is a city in, and the county seat of, Carroll County, Iowa, United States, along the Middle Raccoon River. The population was 10,321 in the 2020 census. History Carroll was laid out in 1867. It took its name from Carroll County, which was named in honor of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Maryland. He was the only Roman Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence. In 1869, the centrally located railroad town of Carroll City was selected as the county seat, replacing, with some protest, Carrollton. Later a $4,000 courthouse was constructed on the town square. This building was used until it burned to the ground in 1886. The vaults and records were undamaged, however, and moved to temporary housing in the Joyce Building and Drees' Music Hall. The Toronto Raptors are a Canadian professional basketball team based in Toronto. Waukon High School
Waukon High School is a public high school located in the city of Waukon, Iowa. It is the only high school in the Allamakee Community School District and serves many of the surrounding towns, including: Harpers Ferry, Waterville, and Dorchester. 2007 Renovation In 2007, a brand new $16 million addition was built onto the Senior High building. Previously Jr. High students attended a building separate from the Senior High. Both Jr. High and Senior High students will now use the new addition to the school. Templeton is a city in Carroll County, Iowa, United States. The population was 352 at the time of the 2020 census. History Templeton was platted in 1882. The city was probably named for a railroad worker. The city was incorporated on September 28, 1883. The city is perhaps best known as the home of Templeton Rye, a "brand" of rye manufactured during the prohibition era that was very popular in Chicago, Omaha, and Kansas City speakeasies. Many enterprising Carroll County farmers found this to be a viable way to supplement income during the Great Depression. At the height of the bootlegging during the Great Depression, Templeton with a population of less than 500 people, was using three railroad cars of sugar a month.
