Kuat (drink)
Kuat (pronounced "kwatch") is a brand of guarana beverage sold by The Coca-Cola Company in Brazil. Kuat was introduced in Brazil in 1997 to compete with the leading guarana beverage, Guaraná Antarctica, which was stealing market share from Coca-Cola's cola products. In Brazil, Kuat is available in a diet version (Kuat Zero) and a green-tea infused version (Kuat Eko). Kuat was briefly sold in Norway starting in 2003 under the name SanSão. Guarana
Guaraná ( from the Portuguese ''guaraná'' ), ''Paullinia cupana'', syns. ''P. crysan, P. sorbilis'') is a climbing plant in the family Sapindaceae, native to the Amazon basin and especially common in Brazil. Guaraná has large leaves and clusters of flowers, and is best known for the seeds from its fruits, which are about the size of a coffee bean. As a dietary supplement or herb, guaraná seed is an effective stimulant: it contains about twice the concentration of caffeine found in coffee beans (about 2–8% caffeine in guarana seeds, compared to about 1–3% for coffee beans). The additive has gained notoriety for being used in energy drinks. As with other plants producing caffeine, the high concentration of caffeine is a defensive toxin that repels herbivores from the berry and its seeds. The Coca-Cola Company
The Coca-Cola Company is an American multinational beverage corporation founded in 1892, best known as the producer of Coca-Cola. The Coca-Cola Company also manufactures, sells, and markets other non-alcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups, and alcoholic beverages. The company's stock is listed on the NYSE and is part of the DJIA and the S&P 500 and S&P 100 indexes. The soft drink was developed in 1886 by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton. At the time it was introduced, the product contained cocaine from coca leaves and caffeine from kola nuts which together acted as a stimulant. The coca and the kola are the source of the product name, and led to Coca-Cola's promotion as a "healthy tonic". Pemberton had been severely wounded in the American Civil War, and had become addicted to the pain medication morphine. Guaraná Antarctica is a guaraná-flavoured soft drink, originating in Brazil. It was created in 1921 by Pedro Baptista de Andrade for Companhia Antarctica Paulista. The drink is produced in four countries: Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and Japan. In Brazil, it is also available as the low calorie version Guaraná Antarctica Zero. Sanduíche-iche
Sanduíche-iche is an Internet meme that emerged in Brazil from an interview with nutritionist Ruth Lemos on TV Globo Nordeste in 2004. In it, Lemos stutters, saying the word "sanduíche-iche" ("sandwich-wich"). The video went viral in 2005 through the social network Orkut communities and was shown on the television program Pânico na TV. Lemos initially didn't like the repercussion, but, taking advantage of the visibility, she ran for state deputy. This is considered one of the first memes in Brazil. Origin On August 26, 2004, nutritionist Ruth Lemos gave a live interview on TV Globo Nordeste's ''Bom Dia PE'' about the eating habits of children.
