Kromme Waal
The Kromme Waal is a street in Amsterdam between the Prins Hendrikkade and the Oude Waal. From Kraansluis (bridge 300, in the Prins Hendrikkade) to Waalseilandbrug (bridge 283), the street forms the western quay of the Waalseilandsgracht, the old inner harbor of Amsterdam between the Montelbaanstoren and the IJ. Prins Hendrikkade
Prins Hendrikkade (Dutch language, Dutch for "Prince Henry's Quay") is a major street in the centre of Amsterdam. It passes Amsterdam Centraal station, Amsterdam Central Station, intersects the Damrak at the mouth of the Amstel river, and forms the southern end of the IJtunnel across the IJ (bay), IJ bay. The street formed the northern edge and outer harbour of the city until the 19th century. It was named after Prince Henry of the Netherlands (1820–1879), Prince Henry of the Netherlands, youngest son of William II of the Netherlands, King William II, following Henry's death in 1879. The Prins Hendrikkade runs roughly northwest to southeast, from the northern end of Singel canal to Kattenburgerplein square. Car traffic is banned from the part of the street directly in front of Amsterdam Central Station, between Martelaarsgracht and Damrak. Waalseilandsgracht
The Waalseilandsgracht, or Waalseilandgracht, is a short, wide canal in the east part of the inner city of Amsterdam. Location The Waalseilandsgracht runs between the Oosterdok (originally part of the IJ) at the Scheepvaarthuis and the Oudeschans at the Montelbaanstoren. Three bridges cross the Waalseilandsgracht: * Prins Hendrikkade crosses at the Oosterdok de Kraansluis (bridge no. 300), * The monumental Waalseiland bridge (bridge no. 283) crosses the middle * At the Montelbaan tower along the Oudeschans it is crossed by the Montelbaans bridge (bridge no. 280). The streets along the water on the west and south side (Lastagebuurt) are called Kromme Waal and Oude Waal. On the northeast side (on the Waalseiland): Binnenkant. Montelbaanstoren
The Montelbaanstoren is a tower on bank of the Oudeschans – a canal in Amsterdam. The original tower was built in 1516 as part of the Walls of Amsterdam for the purpose of defending the city and the harbour. The top half, designed by Hendrick de Keyser, was extended to its current, decorative form in 1606. Since then the tower has been 48m tall. Because the 3rd Duke of Alba proposed incorporating the tower into a castle (the ''Monte Albano'') the tower became known in Dutch as the ''Monte Albano Toren''. Over the years this became garbled to "Montelbaanstoren." The castle was never built. IJ (Amsterdam)
The IJ (; sometimes shown on old maps as ''Y'' or ''Ye'') is a body of water, formerly a bay, in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is known for being Amsterdam's waterfront. Etymology The name IJ is derived from the West Frisian word ''ie'', alternatively spelled ''ije'', meaning water and cognate with the English word ea. The name consists of the digraph ij which is capitalized as IJ. The Beach Boys
The Beach Boys are an American Rock music, rock band that formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian Wilson, Brian, Dennis Wilson, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Distinguished by their vocal harmony, vocal harmonies, adolescent-themed lyrics, and musical ingenuity, they are one of the most influential acts of the rock era. ''Holland'' is the 19th studio album by American rock music, rock band the Beach Boys, released January 8, 1973 on Brother Records, Brother/Reprise Records, Reprise. It is their first album recorded without Bruce Johnston since 1965, their second with Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, and their final studio album created under the ''de facto'' leadership of Carl Wilson and manager Jack Rieley. The LP was originally packaged with a bonus EP, ''Mount Vernon and Fairway'', which consisted of a 12-minute fairy tale written and produced by Brian Wilson, Brian and Carl Wilson.
