2023 Tripura Legislative Assembly Election
2023 Tripura Legislative Assembly elections were held on 16 February 2023 to elect all 60 members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. The votes were counted and the results were declared on 2 March 2023. The Bharatiya Janata Party won a simple majority, defeating its rivals Secular Democratic Forces and the Tipra Motha Party. Tipra Motha Party won 13 seats at its debut and became the largest opposition party in Tripura. Background The tenure of 12th Tripura Assembly is scheduled to end on 22 March 2023. Khowai District
Khowai district is a district of Tripura state of India. This district was created in January, 2012 when four new districts were created in Tripura, taking the number of districts in the state from four to eight. The district headquarters are located in the town Khowai. The district was carved out of West Tripura district along with new Sipahijala district. The district is divided into two subdivisions, namely Khowai and Teliamura. Etymology Khowai district derives its name from the namesake Khowai river, which runs across the district in north-south direction almost in the middle. Geography Khowai district is surrounded by Kamalpur subdivision of Dhalai district in the east, Sadar subdivision of West Tripura in the west and Amarpur subdivision of Gomati district in the south. Scheduled Tribes
The Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) are officially designated groups of people and among the most disadvantaged socio-economic groups in India. The terms are recognized in the Constitution of India and the groups are designated in one or other of the categories. Khagendra Jamatia
Khagendra Jamatia (c. 1954 – 2 March 2018) was an Indian politician. A member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) since 1983, Jamatia first represented the party while standing in the 1988 Tripura Legislative Assembly elections. He subsequently won reelection five consecutive times through 2013, and was again backed by the CPM in the 2018 election cycle. 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly Election
The 2018 Tripura Legislative Assembly election was held on 18 February for 59 of the state's 60 constituencies. The counting of votes took place on 3 March 2018. With 43.59% of the vote, the BJP secured a majority of seats (36) and subsequently formed the government with Biplab Kumar Deb as Chief Minister. The former governing Left Front alliance while receiving 44.35% of the vote secured only 16 seats. Background The term of the Tripura Legislative Assembly ended on 6 March 2018.
