Kovar, Texas
Kovar is an unincorporated community in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. It is located within the Greater Austin metropolitan area. History Kovar was named for early settler Martin Kovar, who came to the area around 1870. A church was organized by Reverend Jindrich Juren in 1894 and had 30 members in attendance, who had Czech and Moravian heritage. Agriculture and a cotton gin made up the community's economy. A post office was established at Kovar in 1903 and remained in operation until 1914, with Frank Rundus as postmaster. The community never developed fully and never recorded a population, but the community's economy eventually centered on ranching. The movie Hope Floats was filmed at Sts. Peter and Paul's church in Kovar. It is located at the southeastern corner of Zimmerhanzel and Stolle Roads and a large SPJST hall is a short distance to the north. Smithville Independent School District
Smithville Independent School District is a public school district based in Smithville, Texas (USA). Located in Bastrop County, in which it serves Smithville and Rosanky, a small portion of the district extends into Fayette County. In 2009, the school district was rated "academically acceptable" by the Texas Education Agency. Smithville ISD is in the service area of Austin Community College. History During the 1969-1970 school year, Smithville ISD gave three black students to an all-African American school district, Jeddo Common School District, which meant that the Jeddo district continued to exist. State Highway 95 (SH 95) is a state highway which connects the cities of Yoakum and Temple in the U.S. state of Texas. Route description SH 95 runs northward from Alt. US 77 at the northern edge of Yoakum. It travels through Shiner (crossing Alt. US 90), Moulton, Flatonia (intersecting US 90 and Interstate 10), Smithville, Bastrop, Elgin (meeting US 290), and Taylor (crossing US 79) before ending at US 190 in Temple. Smithville, Texas
Smithville is a city in Bastrop County, Texas, Bastrop County, Texas, United States, near the Colorado River (Texas), Colorado River. History Thomas Jefferson Gazley arrived in 1827 and set the pace of development for Smithville by building the first house and establishing the first store, which served incoming settlers.
