The Kota Johor Lama Museum ( ms, Muzium Kota Johor Lama) is a museum in Johor Lama, Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia. The museum is about the history of Johor Lama. History The site where the museum stands today was first excavated in 1960 by the British. The second excavation, which occurred in 2004, coincided with the start of the museum construction. The museum was completed in February 2007. It was opened to the public in October 2007. Architecture The museum resembles a traditional house. It consists of five sections, such as the introduction of Kota Johor Lama, the rulers of kingdoms, trades and wars, fortresses along the Johor River and various tombs from archaeological excavation done in Kota Tinggi District. Johor Lama
Johor Lama is a mukim in Kota Tinggi District, Johor, Malaysia. It is situated on the banks of Johor River. It was once a thriving port and the old capital of the Johor Sultanate. History Johor Lama is located near the site of the former capital of the Johor Sultanate, Kota Batu, which was established by Alauddin Riayat Shah II of Johor, Alauddin Riayat Shah II shortly after the fall of the Sultanate of Malacca in 1511. Kota Batu was sacked and burnt by the Aceh Sultanate, Acehnese in 1564, and Alauddin was taken to Aceh and killed. The capital was then moved to Bukit Seluyut for a few years. In the early 1570s, the sultan Ali Jalla Abdul Jalil Shah II, Ali Jalla returned to the Kota Batu area and reestablished the capital at Johor Lama. Johor River
The Johor River ( ms, Sungai Johor) is the main river in the Malaysian state of Johor. The river is 122.7 km long with a catchment of 2,636 km2 and flows in a roughly north–south direction, originating from Mount Gemuruh and then empties into the Strait of Johor.
