Korogwe
Korogwe is a town in Tanzania, with a population of 56,282 in 2012. It is the main centre of Korogwe District, which is within the Tanga Region. Overview The town is the seat of the Anglican Diocese of Tanga and has a cathedral church dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels. It also has a teacher training college and a number of secondary schools. The district is drained by tributaries of the Pangani River. Health care The Magunga district hospital is the home of the NIMR Korogwe Research Laboratory. The building was designed by the Danish architect Jakob Knudsen (see also picture below). Great effort was taken to adapt the building to local environment and climate. The building was officially opened on 19 September 2008 and has since been used to support malaria vaccine trials. Korogwe District
Korogwe District also known as Korogwe District Council is one of the eleven districts of Tanga Region in Tanzania. The District covers an area of . It is bordered to the northeast by the Lushoto District and north by Bumbuli District. Korogwe District also bordered to the east by the Mkinga District and the Muheza District, to the South by the Handeni Rural District and the Korogwe Urban District, and to the West by the Kilimanjaro Region. The highest point in Korogwe District is Mafi Peak at 1,442m. According to the 2012 Tanzania National Census, the population of Korogwe Rural District was 242,038. Tanga Region (''Mkoa wa Tanga'' in Swahili) is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The region covers an area of . The region is comparable in size to the combined land area of the nation state of Burundi. The regional capital is the municipality of Tanga city. Pangani River
The Pangani River (pin-gi'nee) (also called Luffu and Jipe Ruvu, especially in older sources, and probably once called Rhaptus) is a major river of northeastern Tanzania. It has two main sources: the Jipe Ruvu River, Ruvu, which rises as River Lumi, Tanzania, Lumi at Kilimanjaro, passes through Lake Jipe, and empties into the Nyumba ya Mungu Reservoir, and the Kikuletwa, coming from the west and mainly fed by Mount Meru (Tanzania), Mount Meru in Arusha Region, which also enters into the Nyumba ya Mungu Reservoir in Kilimanjaro Region. Just after leaving the reservoir the stream becomes the main Pangani, which empties into the Indian Ocean in Tanga Region at the Tangan port town of Pangani. For much of its length the river flows along the regional borders of Kilimanjaro Region and Manyara Region, before flowing into Tanga Region, which contains the 68 MW Pangani Power Station and the Pangani Falls Dam. A town council, city council or municipal council is a form of local government for small municipalities. Usage of the term varies under different jurisdictions. Zigula People
The Zigula or Zigua (''Wazigua'' in Swahili) are a Bantu ethnic and linguistic people hailing from far northern Pwani Region and western southern Tanga Region. In Tanga Region they are the majority in Handeni District, northern Kilindi District and also a historically significant population in south of the Pangani River in Pangani District. They speak the Zigula language. In 1993, the Zigua population was estimated to number 355,000 people.
