Kohima Ao Baptist Church
Kohima Ao Baptist Church is a Baptist church located in Midland Ward, Kohima, Nagaland, India affiliated with the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang. KABA was one of the first Ao churches established outside the Mokokchung District, Ao region. It serves as the main church building of the Ao Nagas residing in Kohima. History The Kohima Ao Baptist Church was established in the year 1939 where 9 people from the Ao community started the Church in Kohima. Dismantling of the old church building began on 1 April 2011 and a new building was dedicated on 28 April 2019 by senior pastor Rev. M. Asangba Longkümer. Architecture Located at Midland Ward, Kohima, the new church building was constructed at a cost of over ₹26 crore and has a seating capacity of 3500 including the balcony. Membership Today the church membership has 3500 households and a total of 9000+ baptised members with several sectoral fellowships across the city. Ao Language
The Ao language is a Naga language spoken by the Ao Naga in Nagaland of northeast India. Ao language cluster '' Ethnologue'' lists the following varieties of Ao. * Mongsen Khari *Changki * Chongli (Chungli) *Dordar (Yacham) *Longla Chongli and Mongsen are nearly mutually unintelligible. Mills (1926) lists the Ao Naga tribes of Nagaland as speaking three languages: Chungli, Mongsen, and Changki. Chungli Ao and Mongsen Ao are spoken in majority of the Ao villages, whereas Changki speakers form the minor speakers. Mongsen Ao is spoken primarily in the western part of Ao territory. Changki Ao is spoken only in 3 villages - Changki, Japu and Longjemdang - which is poorly documented though reportedly related to Mongsen Ao. Some Changki speakers can fluently converse in both Mongsen and Chungli, but a Mongsen Ao cannot speak Changki or understand it, whereas a Chungli can hardly understand or speak Changki. The Nagaland Baptist Church Council is a Baptist Christian organization based in Nagaland, India. Mokokchung District (Pron:/ˌməʊkɒkˈtʃʌŋ/) is a districts of Nagaland, district of Nagaland state in India. The town of Mokokchung is its headquarters. The district is the home of the Ao Nagas. Ao Naga
The Ao Nagas are a major Naga ethnic group native to Mokokchung District of Nagaland, Northeast India. Their main territory is from Tsüla (Dikhu) Valley in the east to Tsürang (Disai) Valley in the west in Mokokchung District. The Ao Nagas refer to themselves as ''Aoer'', which means "those who came" from across the Dikhu river. They were the first Nagas to embrace Christianity and by virtue of this development the Aos availed themselves of the Western education that came along with Christianity. In the process the Aos pioneered among the Nagas in many fields. Christianity first entered into the Ao territory when an American Baptist missionary, Edwin W.
