The Nagaland Baptist Church Council is a Baptist Christian organization based in Nagaland, India. It is affiliated with the Council of Baptist Churches in Northeast India and the Baptist World Alliance. The headquarters is located in Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. History The Nagaland Baptist Church Council has its origins in an American mission of the American Baptist Mission (American Baptist Churches USA) in 1839. In the late 19th century, various Baptist congregations in the Naga Hills were organised into associations on tribe and linguistic lines. A broader fellowship of the Baptist churches in the Naga Hills first took the forms of the Naga Hills Baptist Church Advisory Board in Kohima. It was renamed as the Naga Hills Baptist Church Council in 1937. In 1950, the council became a founding member of the Council of Baptist Churches in Northeast India. Yimkhiung (formerly formally misspelled as Yimchunger) is a Naga ethnic group whose traditional territory includes Shamator and Kiphire District in the Indian state of Nagaland and western areas of Burma. Etymology The word Yimkhiung means "the ones who have reached their place of choice". They are also known as the Yachumi (also Yatsumi or Yachimi), which is a Sümi-influenced name. The Khiamniungans call Mongtsohai. The Chang's call Yamshong. While the Sangtam call them as Yachungre. History According to the Yimkhiung tradition, the ethnic group emerged at a village called Moru and then came to Jure (or Chiru) village. Pochury Baptist Church Council
Pochury is a Naga tribe of Nagaland, India. The tribe's native territory is located in the eastern part of the Phek district, centered at Meluri town (160 km from the state capital Kohima). History The Pochury identity is of relatively recent origin. It is a composite tribe formed by three Naga communities: Kupo, Kuchu and Khuri. The word Pochury is an acronym formed by the names of three native villages of these tribes: Sapo, Kuchu and Kwiry. According to the Pochuri legends, these villages fought battles against each others, but united into a single tribe after their elders negotiated peace. Besides the three main communities, migrants belonging to the Sangtam and Rengma tribes have also been absorbed in the Pochury group.
