Knud Storgaard
Knud Storgaard Jensen (born 10 August 1972) is a Danish professional golfer. Storgaard, who holds a master's degree in nuclear physics, first qualified for the European Tour in 1998 having won once on the Challenge Tour the previous year. His first season was unsuccessful, but he again qualified for the 2003 European Tour season; unfortunately at the same time it was discovered that he was suffering from testicular cancer. Because of the cancer, Storgaard didn't participate in the European Tour season, and as a result he got a medical extension for the 2004 European Tour season. Skive is a town in Skive municipality (Danish language, Danish, ''Skive Commune (subnational entity), Kommune'') in Region Midtjylland at the base of Salling Peninsula, a part of the larger Jutland peninsula in northwest Denmark. The 1997 World Cup of Golf took place 20–23 November at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort, Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, U.S. It was the 43rd World Cup. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event (32 teams) with each team consisting of two players from a country. The combined score of each team determined the team results. Individuals also competed for the International Trophy. The prize money totaled $1,500,000 with $400,000 going to the winning pair and $100,000 to the top individual. The Irish team of Pádraig Harrington and Paul McGinley won by five strokes over the Scottish team of Colin Montgomerie and Raymond Russell. The World Cup of Golf is a men's golf tournament contested by teams of two representing their country. Only one team is allowed from each country. The players are selected on the basis of the Official World Golf Ranking, although not all of the first choice players choose to compete. The equivalent event for women was the Women's World Cup of Golf, played from 2005 to 2008. History The tournament was founded by Canadian industrialist John Jay Hopkins, who hoped it would promote international goodwill through golf.
