Klagenfurt Bid For The 2006 Winter Olympics
Klagenfurt 2006 (; sl, Celovec 2006) was an unsuccessful multi-national bid submitted by Klagenfurt, Austria and the Austrian Olympic Committee to host the 2006 Winter Olympics. It was one of six candidates, but failed to be short-listed. As the failed bid proposed by Tarvisio for the 2002 Winter Olympics,this bid also planned to use venues placed in Italy and Slovenia. One of the principal motivations was to "demonstrate the unity, harmony, and friendship of a region which has existed and developed as such over centuries, despite changing conditions, separation by political borders and language barriers". The concept was considered to be interesting, but could have resulted in many potential organisational difficulties. Four cities made the shortlist with their bids to host the 2002 Winter Olympics (formally known as ''XIX Olympic Winter Games''), which were awarded to Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, on June 16, 1995. The other cities shortlisted by the IOC Selection Committee chaired by Thomas Bach were Sion, Switzerland; Östersund, Sweden; and Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Salzburg 2014 ( bar, Soizbuag 2014, label=Austro-Bavarian) was an unsuccessful bid by the Austrian Olympic Committee to host the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2014 Winter Paralympics in Salzburg, Austria. Salzburg was one of seven applicants for the games, and one of three to be short-listed, along with Sochi, Russia, and Pyeongchang, South Korea. It was the second consecutive time Salzburg bid for the Winter Olympics, after the close call with the 2010 bid, and the four consecutive time Austria bid, having bid with Graz in 2002 and Klagenfurt in 2006. Three cities made the shortlist with their bids to host the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics (also known as ''XXI Olympic Winter Games'' and the ''X Paralympic Winter Games''), which were awarded to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on July 2, 2003. The other shortlisted cities were Pyeongchang and Salzburg. Although Bern was originally shortlisted along with Vancouver, Pyeongchang and Salzburg, a referendum held in September 2002 revealed that a majority of the citizens of Bern did not support pursuing the candidacy. There were four other cities vying for the hosting honour, that had been dropped by the International Olympic Committee: Andorra la Vella, Harbin, Jaca and Sarajevo. Planica
Planica () is an Alpine valley in northwestern Slovenia, extending south from the border village of Rateče, not far from another well-known ski resort, Kranjska Gora. Further south, the valley extends into the Tamar Valley, a popular hiking destination in Triglav National Park. Planica is famous for ski jumping. The first ski jumping hill was constructed before 1930 at the slope of Mount Ponca. The Eugenio Monti olympic track ( it, Pista olimpica Eugenio Monti ) is a bobsleigh and skeleton track located in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. It is named after Eugenio Monti (1928–2003), who won six bobsleigh medals at the Winter Olympic Games between 1956 and 1968 and ten medals at the FIBT World Championships between 1957 and 1966.
