Kjølsdalen
Kjølsdalen is a village in the municipality of Stad in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the northern shore of the Nordfjorden, about west of the village of Stårheim and about east of the village of Bryggja (in Vågsøy Municipality). The village of Davik lies about across the fjord from Kjølsdalen. The village is named after the Kjølsdalen valley in which it is located. Historically, Kjølsdalen was administratively part of the old municipality of Davik until 1964 when it became part of Eid municipality. In 2020, Eid Municipality became Stad Municipality. Kjølsdalen Church
Kjølsdalen Church ( no, Kjølsdalen kyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Kjølsdalen. It is the church for the Kjølsdalen parish which is part of the Nordfjord prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1940 using plans drawn up by the architect Hans Fredrik Crawfurd-Jensen. The church seats about 300 people. History Historically, the Kjølsdalen area was part of the Davik Church parish in Davik municipality. During the 1870s, there was some bitter local strife about the location of the church in Davik. The people on the north side of the Nordfjorden wanted the church moved across the fjord to Haus (near Kjølsdalen) and the people on the south side wanted it to stay in the village of Davik where it had been for centuries. Davik (village)
Davik is a village in Bremanger Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located on the southern shore of the Nordfjorden, about west of the village of Isane and about east of the village of Rugsund. The village of Kjølsdalen lies across the fjord from Davik. The population of the village (in 2001) was about 330 residents. The village of Davik was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Davik which was in existence from 1838 until 1964 when it was dissolved and its lands were split between three other municipalities. Stårheim (or ''Torvika'') is a village in the municipality of Stad, Norway, Stad in Vestland county, Norway. Stårheim is located in the central part of Stad Municipality on the north shore of the Nordfjorden (Sogn og Fjordane), Nordfjorden, about west of the municipal center of Nordfjordeid and about east of the village of Kjølsdalen. Nordfjorden (Sogn Og Fjordane)
Nordfjorden is the sixth longest fjord in Norway. It flows through the municipalities of Stryn, Gloppen, Stad, Bremanger, and Kinn, and it is the central feature of the entire Nordfjord region which makes up the northern third of the county. The long fjord stretches from Husevågøy island in Kinn Municipality to the village of Loen in Stryn Municipality. The fjord starts as runoff from the Jostedalsbreen, Europe's largest mainland glacier, in the east and it flows west, emptying into the ocean just south of the Stadlandet peninsula. The mouth of the fjord lies between the large islands of Vågsøy and Bremangerlandet (with the smaller island of Husevågøy lying in the middle of the mouth). Vestland
Vestland is a county in Norway established on 1 January 2020. The county is located in Western Norway and it is centred around the city of Bergen, Norway's second largest city. The administrative centre of the county is the city of Bergen, where the executive and political leadership is based, but the County Governor is based in Hermansverk. Davik
Davik is a former municipality in the traditional district of Nordfjord in the old Sogn og Fjordane county (now Vestland), Norway. The former municipality existed from 1838 until 1964 and it encompassed all the lands surrounding the outer part of the large Nordfjorden on both sides of the fjord. Bryggja is a village in southwestern part of Stad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located on the mainland, along the northern shore of the Nordfjorden.
