Kilingi-Nõmme
Kilingi-Nõmme is a town in Pärnu County, southwestern Estonia. It is the administrative centre of Saarde Parish. It's located on the intersection of Valga– Uulu (Valga–Pärnu, nr 6) and Tartu–Viljandi–Kilingi-Nõmme (nr 92) roads, about from the Estonian border with Latvia. History The settlement was first mentioned in 1560 when a manor named ''Ovelgunne'' (also ''Kurkund'') belonging to the Schilling family was established. In 1789 a tavern was opened in the nearby Nõmme farmstead. Hence the name "Kilingi-Nõmme", ''Kilingi'' derived from the ''Schilling'' surname. In the 1870s when most of the manor's land was handed out to Orthodox believers, the settlement started to develop faster. Local congregation was established in 1845, and a parish school three years later. Kilingi-Nõmme was then the centre of the surrounding Saarde Parish. Ants Laaneots
Ants Laaneots (born 16 January 1948) is an Estonian politician and former military officer. He was previously the Commander of the Estonian Defence Forces and a veteran officer in the Soviet Army. Laaneots previously served as the Commandant of the Estonian National Defence College from 2001 to 2006. He was appointed the Commander-in-Chief on 5 December 2006 and was promoted to general in 2011. After retiring from the military, he became a politician. Early life and education Laaneots was born on 16 January 1948 in Kilingi-Nõmme, Estonia. In 1948 the NKVD arrested his father for being a forest brother. For that he was deported to Siberia between 1949–1958. His mother died there in 1952. A year after finishing school, he worked as an assistant to a railway mechanic at Pääsküla railway station. Liisi Koikson
Liisi Koikson (born 4 June 1983 in Kilingi-Nõmme) is an Estonian singer, singing teacher and actress. Liisi Koikson attended Kilingi-Nõmme Gymnasium, graduating in 2001. Her first singing coach was composer, choir director and vocal pedagogue Toomas Voll, from 1991 until 1999. In 1993, at age ten, Koikson won the Eesti Televisioon (ETV) song competition ''Laulukarussell'' for the 8–10 year old category. In 2006, she graduated from the Georg Ots Tallinn Music College. From 2011 until 2014, she studied at the Tech Music School (University of West London) in London, where she obtained a bachelor's degree. Koikson has worked as a singing teacher at the Heino Eller Music School and the NUKU Theatre. Municipalities Of Estonia
A municipality ( et, omavalitsus, plural ) is the smallest administrative subdivision of Estonia. Each municipality is a unit of self-government with its representative and executive bodies. The municipalities in Estonia cover the entire territory of the country. Municipalities in Estonia are of two types: *Urban municipalities or towns (, singular ) *Rural municipalities or parishes (, singular ). There is no other status distinction between them. Counties ( et, maakond, plural ') are the first-level administrative subdivisions of Estonia. Estonian territory is composed of 15 counties, including 13 on the mainland and 2 on islands. The government (') of each county is led by a ' (governor) who represents the national government (') at the regional level. Governors are appointed by the national government for a term of five years.
