Kevin Brennan (comedian)
Kevin Brennan (born May 2, 1960) is an American stand-up comedian, podcaster and writer. He is the host of the '' Misery Loves Company'' podcast, and is best known for his work on ''Saturday Night Live'' ''Weekend Update'' in 1999 and 2000. Brennan was voted "Best Comedian" at the 2005 Aspen Comedy Festival and his half-hour stand-up special was featured on the HBO that same year. He was a featured on the 2007 cross-Canada Just for Laughs comedy tour and performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal in 2009. He was also a repeat panelist on '' Red Eye w/ Tom Shillue'' in 2016 and 2017. Early life Brennan was born in Chicago to an Irish Catholic family and has nine siblings. The Stand Comedy Club
The Stand Comedy Club is a chain of three stand-up comedy venues in the cities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Newcastle upon Tyne. History The Stand hosted its first regular club night on Thursday, 21 September 1995, in the small basement of W.J. Christie's Bar on the West Port in Edinburgh's Old Town. Seven people came and the total box office was £22. The founders, Tommy Sheppard and Jane Mackay, (along with working circuit comedians Gordon Brunton, Bill Dewar, Viv Gee and Reg Anderson) wanted to create a platform for emerging Scottish comedians, as well as a place for people who enjoyed comedy "that looks at the world from a slightly different perspective". Sheppard had lived in London in the early 80s at the time of the alternative comedy boom and had seen Julian Clary and Jo Brand when they were just starting out in small alternative circuit venues. The Boston Comedy Club was an American comedy club that was located at 82 West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village, New York City between Thompson Street and Sullivan Street. The club was open from 1988 to 2005 and was a starting point for comedians such as Sarah Silverman, Jim Gaffigan, Neal Brennan, Adam Sandler, Jeff Ross, Bert Kreischer, Pete Holmes, Nate Bargatze, and Andrew Schulz. History The Boston Comedy Club was founded in 1988 by comedy talent manager and producer Barry Katz. Katz started as a stand-up comedian in Boston in the 1980s, later becoming a booking agent for other comedians. Open Mic
An open mic or open mike (shortened from "open microphone") is a live show at a venue such as a coffeehouse, nightclub, comedy club, strip club, or pub, usually taking place at night, in which audience members may perform on stage whether they are amateurs or professionals, often for the first time or to promote an upcoming performance. As the name suggests, performers are usually provided with a microphone plugged into a PA system so that they can be heard by the audience. Aspen Comedy Festival
The Comedy Festival, formerly known as the US Comedy Arts Festival, was a comedy festival that ran from 1995 to 2008. The festival included stand-up comedy performances, appearances by the casts of television shows, and has a film component called the Film Discovery Program. History The first 13 editions of the US Comedy Arts Festival were held annually at the Wheeler Opera House and other venues in Aspen, Colorado. The primary sponsor of the festival was HBO, with co-sponsorship by Caesars Palace (the primary venue), TBS, GEICO Insurance, Twix candy bars and Smirnoff Vodka.
