Kerala Gulf Diaspora
The Kerala Gulf diaspora refers to the people of Kerala living in the West Asian Arab states of the Persian Gulf. A report presented in 2014, estimates that 90 percent of Kerala's 2.36 million-strong diaspora resides in the Middle East. Nearly 80 percent of Indians living in Kuwait are from Kerala according to the 2008 survey commissioned by the Department of Non-resident Keralite Affairs. The Gulf Boom The "Gulf Boom" refers to the mass migration of a large number of people from the Indian state of Kerala to the GCC states from 1972 to 1983. Largely consisting of the migration of Malayalis, the dominant indigenous ethnic group in Kerala, the movement of many migrant workers from Kerala to the GCC states continues to the present day, although in smaller numbers after the 2008 international financial crisis began to affect the GCC region. ''Vilkkanundu Swapnangal'' () is a 1980 Indian Malayalam-language drama film, directed by Azad, written by M.T. Vasudevan Nair and produced by V. B. K. Menon. Beemapally is a region within the city of Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala, India. Beemapally is famous for its mosque, Beemapally Dargah Shareef, which houses the tomb of Syedunnisa Beema Beevi, a woman believed to have divine powers, and her son Syedu Shuhada Maheen Abubacker. Every year, Uroos is held in the name of Maheen (RA), the son of Beema Beevi(RA).which attracts thousands of pilgrims from all faiths and castes. ''Aadujeevitham'' (English: ''The Goat Life'') is a 2008 Malayalam-language novel by Indian author Benyamin. Its transliterated English version is also known as ''Goat Days''. It is about an abused Malayali migrant worker employed in Saudi Arabia as a goatherd against his will. The novel is based on real-life events and was a best seller in Kerala. According to media, Benyamin became an "overnight sensation" with the publication of this "hard-hitting story" and is currently one of the top sellers in Malayalam.
