Kent Royals
The Kent Royals (formerly Kings) are a British speedway team formed in 2013. Through 2021 they competed in the SGB Championship but also run a junior team in the National League. They were based at Central Park Stadium in Sittingbourne, with a track laid inside the greyhound racing track, but moved to the Iwade track and operated solely as a NDL team starting in 2022. History The Kings joined the National League (third division) in 2013, with the backing of sponsors CTA Fire. Len Silver co-promoted the team with Roger Cearns. Their participation during the 2013 National League speedway season saw the return of professional speedway to Kent for the first time since Canterbury Crusaders closed in 1987. Iwade
Iwade is a village and civil parish north of the town of Sittingbourne in the English county of Kent. History Iwade was established in the late Medieval period, when it was a settlement linking Watling Street to the coast via Key Street (a street towards a Quay). A moated dwelling is believed to have existed here during the 13th to 15th centuries. According to Edward Hasted, in 1798 the manor of Warde (Iwade) was within the hundred of Teynham. It had sixteen houses, and about 60 or 70 inhabitants. The village lies on the former route of the A249 road, a major road from Maidstone to the Isle of Sheppey. A bypass was constructed in 1992, and improved again in 2006 during construction of the Sheppey Crossing. Iwade is the nearest settlement to Swale railway station. In 2014, a prehistoric henge was discovered during the development of new homes. It is believed to date from around 6000BC and is in diameter. Coventry Bees
Coventry Bees were a motorcycle speedway team that existed from 1929 to 2018. They raced at Brandon Stadium, Brandon near Coventry, England. History A Coventry team was first formed in 1928 and competed in the inaugural season of the Southern League and then the National League from 1932 during the pre-war era at Brandon stadium. There were also meetings at a stadium at the Lythalls Lane Stadium. After the war, the club became The Bees and were involved every season from 1948 until the loss of Brandon stadium shortly before the start of the 2017 season, during which they ran a series of challenge matches at other tracks. Although the club have won the now defunct Midland Cup eleven times, the first silverware won at national level by the club was the 1953 Speedway National League Division Two league title. Connor Coles
Connor Coles (born 7 September 1994) is a speedway rider from England. Speedway career Coles began his speedway career riding for Rye House Raiders during the 2012 National League speedway season and then moved to Kent Kings for the 2013 National League speedway season. He then spent three seasons with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers, in which time he helped the team win the National Trophy. It was in 2017 that Coles moved up to the SGB Championship and rode for Newcastle Diamonds for the SGB Championship 2017 season. He also appeared for Eastbourne and the Isle of Wight in the third division. Following a season with Buxton he joined Edinburgh in the SGB Championship 2019 and Stoke in the NDL. In 2021, he rode for the Belle Vue Colts. In 2022, he rode for the Scunthorpe Scorpions and Plymouth Gladiators in the SGB Championship 2022 and Leicester Lion Cubs during the 2022 National Development League speedway season. Steven Shane (Steve) Boxall (born 16 May 1987 in Canterbury, Kent) is a speedway rider in the United Kingdom. He rode with the Belle Vue Aces in the Elite League. 2022 National Development League Speedway Season
The 2022 National Development League was the third division/tier of British speedway for the 2022 season. It is a semi-professional development league, containing the junior sides of many SGB Premiership and SGB Championship clubs. Summary Eight clubs competed for the League Championship, with Armadale, Belle Vue, Berwick, Kent, Leicester and champions Mildenhall all returning. Kent would switch venues from Central Park Stadium to the Iwade Speedway Stadium and would only enter the Royals in the National League. 2021 National Development League Speedway Season
The National Development League 2021 is the third tier/division of British speedway for the 2021 season. Due to pressures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic it was decided that the league would be decided by the final table standings only, with no playoffs being held. For the same reason no Knockout Cup would be held. Team changes There were significant changes from the previous 2019 National Development League speedway season. Plymouth Gladiators and Kent Kings moved up a division to the SGB Championship but the latter formed a junior side called the Kent Royals to compete in the development league. The Cradley Heathens had withdrawn after the 2019 season and the Isle of Wight Warriors withdrew from the league in early 2021. 2015 National League Speedway Season
The 2015 National League was the seventh season of the National League, the third tier of British speedway. The Cradley Heathens were the defending champions after winning the competition in 2014. Cradley finished the 2015 season in third place, as the Birmingham Brummies won the championship title. With 14 wins from 18 matches, the Brummies won the title after a 47–42 victory at the Mildenhall Fen Tigers in September, and ultimately finished 6 points clear of the Eastbourne Eagles. Teams The 2015 season featured 10 teams, one more than in 2014. SGB Championship 2021
The SGB Championship 2021 was the second tier division, called the SGB Championship, of the British speedway championship in 2021. Changes from the last edition of the Championship (held in 2019) were the addition of three teams and the loss of two teams. The 2019 Premiership club Poole Pirates, were the biggest profile club to join the league after dropping down from the highest league. Also the Kent Kings and Plymouth Gladiators both joined the league from the National Development League. Sheffield Tigers left the league to move up to the highest division and Somerset Rebels withdrew from the league altogether. The league started on 21 May with twelve teams participating and race meetings were covered by Eurosport.
