Sven Verbrugge
Sven Verbrugge (Schoten, 21 August 1967) is a retired Belgium, Belgian sidecarcross passenger and triple Sidecarcross World Championship, Sidecarcross World Champion, winning the title in 2005, 2006 and 2011. Verbrugge started racing motocross in 1983 in the 125 cc solo class before becoming a sidecarcross passenger in 1986. In his career, he has raced for over 20 years in the Belgian, Dutch and the world sidecarcross championships. After his second world championship in 2006, Sven retired from the world championship, but felt, according to himself, "homesick" for the GP circus and returned for the 2008 season alongside his countryman Nicky Pulinx. Apart from two world championships, he also won the Belgian title in 1993, 1994, 2004 and 2006 and the Dutch in 2001 and 2006. 2016 Sidecarcross World Championship
The 2016 FIM Sidecarcross World Championship, the 37th edition of the competition, started on 10 April and finished after eleven events on 18 September 2016. The championship was won by Belgian rider Jan Hendrickx and his Dutch passenger Ben van den Bogaart. For Hendrickx it was the first title while van den Bogaart won his third, having previously been World Champion as passenger of Ben Adriaenssen in 2013 and 2014. Adriaenssen, with passenger Lauris Daiders, finished second, 43 points behind while British riders Stuart Brown and Josh Chamberlain came third. The defending champions were Etienne Bax from the Netherlands and his Latvian passenger Kaspars Stupelis, winning their first-ever World Championship together in 2015, also Stupelis had been World Champion twice before with Daniël Willemsen in 2003 and 2004. 2015 Sidecarcross World Championship
The 2015 FIM Sidecarcross World Championship, the 36th edition of the competition, started on 6 April and finished after fifteen events on 20 September 2015. The defending champions were Ben Adriaenssen from Belgium and his Dutch passenger Ben van den Bogaart, who won the 2013 and 2014 World championships together. Adriaenssen suffered a foot injury during the fourth Grand Prix of the season, at the time sitting in second place of the World Championship, and was forced to miss the remainder of the season. Van den Bogaart later rejoined the series at the seventh round, partnering Belgian rider Jan Hendrickx. The 2015 World Championship was won by Etienne Bax and Kaspars Stupelis. Second placed, 96 points behind, was French rider Valentin Giraud, who was partnered by compatriot Nicolas Musset for most of the season; however, Latvia's Elvijs Mucenieks partnered Giraud at the final three events of the season as Musset suffered a foot injury. The 2014 FIM Sidecarcross World Championship, the 35th edition of the competition, started on 13 April and finished after ten Grand Prix weekends on 21 September 2014. The defending champions were Ben Adriaenssen from Belgium and his Dutch passenger Ben van den Bogaart, who won their first title in 2013. The pair defended their title while the Dutch-Latvian combination of Etienne Bax and Kaspars Stupelis finished runners-up for the third consecutive time. Third place went to the British duo of Stuart Brown and Josh Chamberlain, their highest-ever finish. The Sidecarcross World Championship, first held in 1980 and organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, is an annual competition.
