The Arizona State Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Arizona. It is a bicameral legislature that consists of a lower house, the House of Representatives, and an upper house, the Senate. Amish Shah is an American doctor, politician and a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives representing District 5 since January 9, 2023. Lela Alston (born June 26, 1942) is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Arizona State Senate representing District 24 since January 14, 2019. She previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019, and from 2011 to 2013 in the District 11 seat, and non-consecutively in the Arizona State Legislature from 1977 until 1995 in the Arizona Senate. Wally Straughn (born 1957) is an American politician, who served as a Democratic member of the Arizona House of Representatives from 2003 to 2005. A United States Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War, he was first elected in the 2002 election as a member of the Democratic Party. Northern Arizona University (NAU) is a public research university based in Flagstaff, Arizona. It was founded in 1899 as the final public university established in the Arizona Territory, 13 years before Arizona was admitted as the 48th state.
