Kelashi
Kelashi is a village in Dapoli taluka, Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra state in Western India. The 2011 Census of India recorded a total of 3,145 residents in the village. Kelashi's geographical area is . Kelashi is a small seaside village, famous for its Mahalaxmi Temple (1100 years old temple), sand hillocks and Yakub baba's dargah. Gangabai Sathe, born in Kelashi was married to Peshwa Narayanrao Bhat on 18th April 1763. She was born in the family of Keshav Vinayak Sathe. Sathe family served as the priests in the temple of Mahalakshmi for more than a century. Ruins of Gangabai's birth house are still present in Kelashi. Mahalaxmi Temple The original idol of Mahalaxmi is missing. It is widely believed that the idol was removed for safekeeping during a raid by Habshi or Siddi. 2011 Census Of India
The 2011 Census of India or the 15th Indian Census was conducted in two phases, house listing and population enumeration. The House listing phase began on 1 April 2010 and involved the collection of information about all buildings. Information for National Population Register (NPR) was also collected in the first phase, which will be used to issue a 12-digit unique identification number to all registered Indian residents by Unique Identification Authority of India. The second population enumeration phase was conducted between 9 and 28 February 2011. Census has been conducted in India since 1872 and 2011 marks the first time biometric information was collected. According to the provisional reports released on 31 March 2011, the Indian population increased to 1.21 billion with a decadal growth of 17.70%. Mahalakshmi Temple, Kolhapur
Ambabai Temple (also known as Mahalaxmi Mandir) is an important Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, who resides here as Supreme Mother Mahalakshmi and is worshipped by locals as Ambabai. Goddess Mahalakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu and it is customary among Hindus to visit Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, Kolhapur Mahalakshmi Temple and Padmavathi Temple as a yatra (pilgrimage). It is believed that visiting these temples as a pilgrimage helps achieve moksha (salvation). Description The temple of the goddess Mahalakshmi was built by Karnadeva in 634 CE Chalukya reign. Mounted on a stone platform, the ''murti'' of the crowned goddess is made of gemstone and weighs about 40 kilograms. The image of Mahalakshmi carved in black stone is 3 feet in height. Census Of India
The decennial Census of India has been conducted 16 times, as of 2021. While it has been undertaken every 10 years, beginning in 1872 under British Viceroy Lord Mayo, the first complete census was taken in 1881. Post 1949, it has been conducted by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. All the censuses since 1951 were conducted under the 1948 Census of India Act. The last census was held in 2011, whilst the next was to be held in 2021.
