Dhaka Metro Rail ( bn, ঢাকা মেট্রোরেল), colloquially known as the Dhaka Metro ( bn, ঢাকা মেট্রো) is a mass rapid transit (MRT) system serving Dhaka, Bangladesh. Together with the city's planned subway system, it is expected to reduce congestion in the capital. It is a part of the 20-year long Strategic Transport Plan (STP) outlined by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA). The first phase of Dhaka Metro's MRT Line 6 commenced commercial operations on 28 December 2022, after being inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Various romanisation systems for Bengali are used, most of which do not perfectly represent Bengali pronunciation. MRT Line 6 (Dhaka Metro)
The MRT Line 6 ( bn, এমআরটি লাইন ৬) is a line on the Dhaka Metro Rail. Bangladesh's first rapid transit line, it has been in service since 2022. It is an entirely elevated line and currently has 9 stations in service between Uttara North and Agargaon. The line was the result of the proposal of a mass rapid transit system in Dhaka by the Review Committee of the Strategic Transport Plan led by Jamilur Reza Choudhury and the Urban Traffic Formulation Study prepared by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Its construction started in 2016 that was delayed several times as a result of disagreements about the route, the July 2016 Dhaka attack, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Agargaon (, ''romanised: Agargao'') is a metro station of the Dhaka Metro's MRT Line 6. It is located in Agargaon, and was opened on 29 December 2022. History The Agargaon Metro Station was constructed under "Package CP-03". The notification of application for construction of raised bridges for stations and railways was published on 30 June 2015 and the last date for submission of applications was 9 September 2015. Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited gets work contract for "Package CP-03". The agreement document was sent to the ministry on 29 March 2016 for NBR investigation and law and parliamentary investigation.
