Kate Chaney
Katherine Ella Chaney (born 21 January 1975) is an Australian independent politician, who was elected to the Australian House of Representatives at the 2022 Australian federal election, succeeding Liberal Party MP Celia Hammond in the division of Curtin. Chaney is the granddaughter of Fred Chaney Sr., who served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1955 to 1969 and as Lord Mayor of Perth from 1978 to 1982; and is the niece of Fred Chaney, who was deputy leader of the Liberal Party from 1989 to 1990 and served as a minister in the Fraser Government. Early life and career Chaney was born on 21 January 1975 in the United States. Her father is Michael Chaney, a businessman. Sir Stephen Henry Parker (7 November 1846 – 13 December 1927) was a lawyer and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia from 1906 to 1914. Biography Early life Stephen Henry Parker was the second son of Stephen Stanley Parker (1817–1904) and his wife Elizabeth, née Sewell. He was the grandson of Stephen Parker (1879), a pioneer settler in York, Western Australia. Parker was educated at the Bishop's School, Perth, and was called to the bar in 1868. Career He became a member of the Western Australian Legislative Council and advocated responsible government for the colony. Ministerialists And Oppositionists (Western Australia)
Ministerialists and Oppositionists (Western Australia) were political groupings that were in force in the Western Australian parliament between 1890 and 1911. At the establishment of the WA parliament in 1890, Ministerialists were defined as those who supported the government of the day (led by John Forrest), while Oppositionists were opposed to it. Multiple candidates for each grouping could run for a given seat. The Australian Labour Party (ALP) was the only major grouping outside this structure. Additionally, some candidates ran as an "Independent". At the 1901 WA election, the Ministerialists (aligned with Forrest) lost to the Oppositionists (led by George Leake). However, the labels stuck to the groupings, and the "Oppositionists" now had power and the ministries.
