Karel Demuynck
Karel Demuynck (born 21 March 1965) is a Belgian former professional tennis player. A Limburg native, Demuynck featured in four Davis Cup ties for Belgium. On his debut in 1985 he won a reverse singles which gave Belgium the tie against Bulgaria. His only other win came in his final appearance in 1988 when he defeated Hungary's Ferenc Csepai in a relegation playoff which Belgium ultimately lost. Demuynck competed in the main draw of the Brussels Indoor on five occasions during the 1980s and twice made the second round, with wins over Mark Dickson in 1986 and Xavier Daufresne in 1988. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. History and profile In 1929, ''Het Nieuwsblad'' was published by ''De Standaard'' for the first time. Davis Cup
The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as the World Champion team. The competition began in 1900 as a challenge between Great Britain and the United States. By 2016, 135 nations entered teams into the competition. The Bulgaria men's national tennis team represents Bulgaria in Davis Cup tennis competition and is governed by the Bulgarian Tennis Federation. In the 2023 edition of the tournament Bulgaria defeated New Zealand in the World Group I Play-offs. Donnay Indoor Championships
The Brussels Indoor (also known as the ''Donnay Indoor Championships'') is a defunct professional tennis tournament played on indoor carpet courts at Forest National in Brussels. It was part of the Grand Prix tennis circuit initially and later, for three years, the ATP Championship Series of the ATP Tour. The tournament was established in 1980, becoming the second tournament to be played in Brussels, along with the ATP Brussels Outdoor. The following year the outdoor tournament was played for the last time, leaving the Donnay Indoor Championships as the sole professional tournament in the region. Mark Dickson (tennis)
Mark Dickson (born 8 December 1959) is a former professional tennis player. Playing college tennis at Clemson University, Dickson was selected as the 1982 ITCA Senior Player of the Year. Additionally, he was named All-American in singles in 1980, 1981 and 1982. In 1981 he was also named All-American in doubles. Dickson turned pro in 1982 after becoming the first three-time All-America at Clemson University from 1980 to 1982. As a tour pro, Dickson is best known for being a quarter-finalist in the 1983 US Open where he defeated Stefan Simonsson, Mel Purcell, Danie Visser and John Lloyd before losing to compatriot Bill Scanlon. Xavier Daufresne (born 24 December 1968) is a former tennis player from Belgium. Daufresne turned professional in 1988. He did not win any Grand Prix tennis or ATP Tour titles (in either singles or doubles) during his career.
