Karel Ančerl
Karel Ančerl (11 April 1908 – 3 July 1973) was a Czechoslovak conductor and composer, renowned especially for his performances of contemporary music and for his interpretations of music by Czech composers. Ančerl was born into a prosperous Jewish family in the village of Tučapy in southern Bohemia. After graduating from the Prague Conservatory, he pursued his conducting studies under Hermann Scherchen and Václav Talich. He was the assistant conductor at the Munich premiere of Alois Hába's quarter-tone opera ''Mother'' (1931) and conducted the orchestra of the avant-garde theatre ''Osvobozené divadlo'' in Prague (1931–1933). Conducting work for Czechoslovak radio was interrupted by World War II which resulted in his being imprisoned with his family in the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942 and then sent to Auschwitz in 1944. Karel Eykman
Karel Eykman (1 March 1936 – 30 August 2022) was a Dutch writer of children's literature. Early life Eykman started studying theology in 1956. Career In 1969, Eykman published his first book ''De werksters van half vijf en andere gelijkenissen''. He won the Zilveren Griffel award in 1975 for his book ''De vreselijk verlegen vogelverschrikker''. In 1984, he won the Gouden Griffel award for his book ''Liefdesverdriet''. In the seventies of the twentieth century he was also a member of ''Het Schrijverscollectief'', a group of writers which included Eykman, Willem Wilmink, Hans Dorrestijn, Ries Moonen, Jan Riem and Fetze Pijlman. Together they contributed to television shows such as ''De Stratemakeropzeeshow'' and '' De film van Ome Willem''. Karel Willem Frederik Marie Doorman (23 April 1889 – 28 February 1942) was a Dutch naval officer who during World War II commanded remnants of the short-lived American-British-Dutch-Australian Command naval strike forces in the Battle of the Java Sea. He was killed in action when his flagship was torpedoed during the battle, having chosen to go down with the ship. Karel Cornelia Constantijn Dillen (16 October 1925 – 27 April 2007) was a far-right Belgian politician and Flemish nationalist. Karel deLeeuw, or de Leeuw ( – ), was a mathematics professor at Stanford University, specializing in harmonic analysis and functional analysis.
