Kansas City Blades
The Kansas City Blades were a professional ice hockey team in the International Hockey League (IHL) from 1990 until 2001, when the league folded. The Blades were based in Kansas City, Missouri, at Kemper Arena. Team history Russ and Diane Parker bought the dormant Toledo Goaldiggers franchise and moved it to Kansas City in 1990. Russ Parker conducted a contest to name the team and fans chose the name "Jazz". However, because the NBA's Utah Jazz were already using that name, Parker decided to use the second most popular name, "Blades." George Brett was one of a number of local residents that had submitted the name "Blades" during the naming contest. Independence is the fifth-largest city in Missouri and the county seat of Jackson County. The ECHL (formerly the East Coast Hockey League) is a mid-level professional ice hockey league based in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, with teams scattered across the United States and Canada. It is a tier below the American Hockey League (AHL). The ECHL and the AHL are the only minor leagues recognized by the collective bargaining agreement between the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association, meaning any player signed to an entry-level NHL contract and designated for assignment must report to a club in either the ECHL or the AHL. The Kansas City Mavericks are an ice hockey team in the ECHL. Founded in 2009 as the Missouri Mavericks of the CHL, the team plays in Independence, Missouri, a suburb of Kansas City, Missouri, at the Cable Dahmer Arena. The United Hockey League (UHL), originally known as the Colonial Hockey League from 1991 to 1997 and last known as the International Hockey League from 2007 to 2010, was a low-level minor professional ice hockey league, with teams in the United States and Canada. The league was headquartered in Rochester, Michigan, and, in its last year, consisted of seven teams. It folded in 2010, with most of its teams joining the Central Hockey League. The Kansas City Outlaws were a minor professional ice hockey team that played in the United Hockey League (UHL) for the 2004–05 season. Paul A. MacLean (born March 9, 1958) is a French-born Canadian professional ice hockey coach and former player who is currently an assistant coach with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) and formerly head coach of the NHL's Ottawa Senators, winning the 2013 Jack Adams Award as the NHL's Coach of the Year. Donald Clinton Jackson (born September 2, 1956) is an American ice hockey coach and former professional ice hockey player who played 315 games in the National Hockey League between 1978 and 1987 and began his coaching career in 1988. Since May 2014, he has been serving as head coach of EHC Red Bull München in Germany. Playing career Jackson grew up playing ice hockey in Bloomington, Minnesota, for John F. Vasily Tikhonov (ice Hockey)
Vasili Viktorovich Tikhonov (13 May 1958 – 7 August 2013) was a Russian ice hockey coach. Biography Tikhonov was born and died in Moscow and was the son of legendary Soviet ice hockey coach Viktor Tikhonov. He started his career in the 1980s by coaching the youth teams of Dinamo Riga. In 1990 he became the head coach of Finnish SM-liiga side Ässät Pori. After the 1992–1993 season Tikhonov moved to North America and worked as an assistant coach with the San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League and later as a head coach with the Kansas City Blades and Kentucky Thoroughblades of the American Hockey League. In 1998 he returned to Europe and coached several teams in Finland, Switzerland and Russia. Thomas James Wiley (April 28, 1950 – December 26, 2021) was a Canadian professional ice hockey Centre (ice hockey), center and coach (sports), coach. He played 62 games in the National Hockey League (NHL) between 1972 and 1977, split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks, with the bulk of his career being spent in the minor Central Professional Hockey League, Central Hockey League. Wiley retired as a player in 1980, and in 1984 became a coach in the United States Hockey League, and later coached in several minor leagues.
