Kangerajiip Apusiia
Odinland ( da, Odin Land), also ''Odinsland'' in the Defense Mapping Agency Greenland Navigation charts, is a peninsula in the King Frederick VI Coast, southeastern Greenland. It is a part of the Sermersooq municipality. The peninsula is fully exposed to the influence of the Greenland Ice Sheet. In spite of the proximity of the coast and despite being located south of the Arctic Circle, an ice cap climate prevails in Odinland. History Arctic explorer Wilhelm August Graah of the Danish Navy explored this area in 1828–30, during an expedition in search of the legendary Eastern Norse Settlement and named this lonely peninsula after Odin. A large icy coastal stretch was named "Colberger Heide" by Graah, owing to its shore being lined with active glaciers and ice cliffs. This was one of the most dangerous stretches of the shore for the Southeast-Greenland Inuit that used to live hunting and fishing along the coast.Spencer Apollonio, ''Lands that Hold One Spellbound: A Story of ...

NASA
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA ) is an independent agency of the US federal government responsible for the civil space program, aeronautics research, and space research. NASA was established in 1958, succeeding the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), to give the U.S. space development effort a distinctly civilian orientation, emphasizing peaceful applications in space science. NASA has since led most American space exploration, including Project Mercury, Project Gemini, the 1968-1972 Apollo Moon landing missions, the Skylab space station, and the Space Shuttle. NASA supports the International Space Station and oversees the development of the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System for the crewed lunar Artemis program, Commercial Crew spacecraft, and the planned Lunar Gateway space station. The agency is also responsible for the Launch Services Program, which provides oversight of launch operations and countdown management f ...

Eastern Norse Settlement
The Eastern Settlement ( non, Eystribygð ) was the first and by far the larger of the two main areas of Norse Greenland, settled by Norsemen from Iceland. At its peak, it contained approximately 4,000 inhabitants. The last written record from the Eastern Settlement is of a wedding in Hvalsey in 1408, placing it about 50–100 years later than the end of the more northerly Western Settlement. Despite its name, the Eastern Settlement was more south than east of its companion and, like the Western Settlement, was located on the southwestern tip of Greenland at the head of long fjords such as Tunulliarfik Fjord or Eiriksfjord, Igaliku or Einarsfjord, and Sermilik Fjord. Approximately 500 groups of ruins of Norse farms are found in the area, with 16 church ruins, including Brattahlíð, Dyrnæs, Garðar, Hvalsey and Herjolfsnes. The Vatnahverfi district to the southeast of Einarsfjord had some of the best pastoral land in the colony, and boasted 10% of all the known farm sites ...

Sleipner Glacier
Sleipner Glacier ( da, Sleipner Gletscher), is a glacier in eastern Greenland Greenland ( kl, Kalaallit Nunaat, ; da, Grønland, ) is an island country in North America that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. It is located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Greenland i .... This glacier was named after Sleipnir, Sleipner, Odin's mythical eight-legged flying horse. Geography The Sleipner Glacier originates in central Odinland, a heavily glaciated peninsula. It flows westward just west of Ensom Majestaet ('Lonely Majesty'), Odinland's highest point. The glacier is roughly east–west oriented and joins the left side of the Fimbul Glacier just north of its terminus in the Bernstorff Fjord (Kangertittivaq).GoogleEarth Together the Sleipner and Fimbul glaciers produce massive amounts of ice that blocks the fjord.''Prostar Sailing Directions 2005 Greenland and Iceland Enroute'', p. 102 Bibliography''Climate-related glacier fl ...

Umivik Bay
Umivik Bay ( da, Umivik Bugt), also known as ''Umiivik'' and ''Umerik'', is a bay in King Frederick VI Coast, southeastern Greenland. It is part of the Sermersooq municipality. Unlike the jagged and forbidding appearance of most fjord systems in East Greenland, the Umivik area has a relatively gentle shape. Here the massive Greenland ice sheet comes down to the shore in smooth, even undulations and the landscape looks unbroken, with only few glimpses of bare rock.''Prostar Sailing Directions 2005 Greenland and Iceland Enroute'', p. 102 Owing to this smoothness, Umivik Bay was chosen as launching point for westward overland crossings, including the pioneering 1888 Greenland venture by Fridtjof Nansen. Geography Umivik Bay is located between the Fridtjof Nansen Peninsula to the north and the Odinland Peninsula to the south. It includes a sound and a fjord and has a few large islands, the largest of which is Upernattivik (Upernarsuak) lying squarely in the middle of the in ...

Cape Møsting
Cape Møsting ( da, Kap Møsting) is a headland in the North Atlantic Ocean, southeast Greenland, Kujalleq municipality. History Cape Møsting was named by Lieutenant Wilhelm August Graah in 1829 during his East Coast expedition. Graah took a latitude observation at the headland and named it after Johan Sigismund von Møsting. One of the umiak women rowers of Graah's party gave birth to twins at the cape. The Inuit babies died shortly after delivery and were buried in a cleft of the rocks of the two small islands off the SW side of Cape Møsting. Graah named these islands ''"Tvillingøen"'', Twin Islands, after the dead twins. Geography Cape Møsting is located at the southeastern end of Odinland. It is a steep and prominent headland on the northern side of the mouth of Bernstorff Fjord. Usually great masses of icebergs lie near the fjord entrance to the south of the cape making navigation along the shore difficult. Dangerous eddies and whirlpools form within the bank of iceber ...

GoogleEarth
Google Earth is a computer program that renders a 3D representation of Earth based primarily on satellite imagery. The program maps the Earth by superimposing satellite images, aerial photography, and GIS data onto a 3D globe, allowing users to see cities and landscapes from various angles. Users can explore the globe by entering addresses and coordinates, or by using a keyboard or mouse. The program can also be downloaded on a smartphone or tablet, using a touch screen or stylus to navigate. Users may use the program to add their own data using Keyhole Markup Language and upload them through various sources, such as forums or blogs. Google Earth is able to show various kinds of images overlaid on the surface of the earth and is also a Web Map Service client. In 2019, Google has revealed that Google Earth now covers more than 97 percent of the world, and has captured 10 million miles of Street View imagery. In addition to Earth navigation, Google Earth provides a series of ...

Fimbul Glacier ( da, Fimbulgletscher), is a glacier in eastern Greenland. This glacier was named after an Old Norse word for "giant" or "mighty". Geography The Fimbul Glacier originates in western Odinland, a glaciated peninsula.
