Kanata South Ward
Kanata South Ward or Ward 23 (French: ''Quartier Kanata-Sud'') is a municipal ward in Ottawa, Ontario. Located in the city's west end, the ward created in 2006 includes the communities of Katimavik-Hazeldean, Glen Cairn, Bridlewood, and Trailwest. During a ward re-organization in 2006, the former Kanata Ward was split into two wards, Kanata North for areas north of Highway 417 and Kanata South for areas to the south. Glen Cairn
Glen Cairn is a neighbourhood in Kanata South Ward in the west end of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is also the name of a public school in the area. Prior to amalgamation in 2001, it was located in the City of Kanata. It is located in South Kanata, about west of Downtown Ottawa. It was one of the original neighbourhoods in Kanata. The community was built in the 1960s, and was part of Goulbourn Township until the creation of Kanata in 1978. 2018 Ottawa Municipal Election
The 2018 Ottawa municipal election was a municipal election that was held on October 22, 2018, to elect the mayor of Ottawa, Ottawa City Council and the Ottawa-Carleton Public and Catholic School Boards. The election was held on the same day as elections in every other municipality in Ontario. The electoral system used is First past the post. Successful candidates do not need to have majority support of the voters in their district. The 2006 Ottawa municipal election was held on November 13, 2006, in Ottawa, Canada, to elect the mayor of Ottawa, Ottawa City Council and the Ottawa-Carleton Public and Catholic School Boards. The race featured three main candidates: incumbent mayor Bob Chiarelli, former Kanata councillor Alex Munter and businessman Larry O'Brien (Canadian politician), Larry O'Brien. The race began as a fight between Chiarelli and Munter, with Munter getting the edge and 2003 candidate Terry Kilrea in a close third. However, in the summer O'Brien joined the campaign, prompting Kilrea to drop out and endorse Chiarelli. However, most of Kilrea's support went to O'Brien, creating a tight three-way race. Peggy Feltmate
Peggy Feltmate is Canadian politician who was Ottawa city councillor representing Kanata South Ward from 2003 to 2010. She was born in Wallaceburg, Ontario, in 1949 and was first elected in the 2003 Ottawa election to replace outgoing councillor Alex Munter in Kanata Ward. She had won plaudits for her efforts at the Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre and was backed by Munter and other well-known Kanata figures. During her first term in office, Feltmate helped prevent development of the area around Beaver Pond. Due to population growth, her ward was split in two in 2006. Highway 417 (Ontario)
King's Highway 417, commonly referred to as Highway 417 and as the Queensway through Ottawa, is a 400-series highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. It connects Ottawa with Montreal via A-40, and is the backbone of the highway system in the National Capital Region. Within Ottawa, it forms part of the Queensway west from Highway 7 to Ottawa Road 174. Highway 417 extends from the Quebec border, near Hawkesbury, to Arnprior, where it continues westward as Highway 17. Kanata North Ward
Kanata North Ward or Ward 4 (French: ''Quartier Kanata-Nord'') is a ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created in 2006 when its predecessor, Kanata Ward, split in two main parts. The original Kanata Ward covered all of the former City of Kanata. The new Kanata North Ward also includes a small part taken from West Carleton Ward (near Palladium Drive) Its represented on Ottawa City Council by Cathy Curry. She was appointed on November 20, 2021, replacing Jenna Sudds who was elected to Parliament in the 2021 Canadian federal election. Bridlewood, Ottawa
Bridlewood is a neighbourhood in Kanata South Ward in the western part of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Bridlewood was part of the Township of Nepean until 1978, and then part of the City of Kanata until 2001, when that city amalgamated with the City of Ottawa. Location According to the Bridlewood Community Association, the neighbourhood is located east of Eagleson Road, south and west of the National Capital Commission Greenbelt, and north of Hope Side Road. As of the 2016 Canada Census, this area had a population of 24,400. This community is located in the southeast part of the former city of Kanata and is 12 km from the boundary of pre-amalgamation Ottawa proper.
