Kanata North Ward
Kanata North Ward or Ward 4 (French: ''Quartier Kanata-Nord'') is a ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created in 2006 when its predecessor, Kanata Ward, split in two main parts. The original Kanata Ward covered all of the former City of Kanata. The new Kanata North Ward also includes a small part taken from West Carleton Ward (near Palladium Drive) Its represented on Ottawa City Council by Cathy Curry. She was appointed on November 20, 2021, replacing Jenna Sudds who was elected to Parliament in the 2021 Canadian federal election. Communities in the ward include South March, Morgan's Grant, Kanata Lakes, Marchwood, Beaverbrook and Town Centre. Following the 2020 Ottawa Ward boundary review, the ward will gain a small piece of territory in the South March area to accommodate a proposed housing development. West Carleton Ward
West Carleton-March Ward (Ward 5) is a city ward in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The ward was created for the 2000 election when West Carleton Township was amalgamated into the new city of Ottawa. At that time, the ward was called West Carleton Ward. It consisted of the former West Carleton Township. In 2006, the boundaries were altered, and the ward was given its present name. Its southern border became Highway 7 and the Queensway and it lost some areas in the southeastern part of the ward. The ward also added the rural northern portion of the former city of Kanata. Its population in 2006 was 23,400 – the second least populated ward. Its area is 763 km², the largest city ward. Marianne Wilkinson
Marianne Margaret Wilkinson () is a Canadian local politician and ex-Councillor for Kanata North (Ward 4) in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Career Wilkinson was born in Ottawa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Francis Rowe Berton. The family moved to Calgary when she was nine, but returned 9 years later. She finished high school at Glebe Collegiate Institute. After high school, she graduated in Geography from Trinity College, University of Toronto. After university, she began her career as a high school teacher. The family moved to Kanata in 1968 where she immediately joined the Kanata Beaverbrook Community Association. The next year, she was elected to March Township Council, winning 635 votes. She finished in 4th place in the four-seat at-large election. John Mlacak
John Mlacak (February 27, 1936http://www.letudiantoutaouais.ca/Culture/2009-11-19/article-1488747/John-Mlacak-:-peintre-et-pionnier-a-Kanata/1 – September 19, 2014) was a Canadian politician and painter. He served as reeve of March Township, Ontario from 1968 to 1976. Life Mlacak was born in 1936 in Windsor, Ontario, the son of Croat immigrants. He received a bachelor's and master's degree in engineering from Queen's University. After his education, he began working for the Northern Electric Company, which later became Nortel. He stayed with Nortel until 1995. Beaverbrook (Kanata)
Beaverbrook is a suburban neighbourhood in Kanata North Ward in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located within the former city of Kanata. Beaverbrook is known for its hedged houses and community facilities. The neighbourhood is bounded by the Kanata North Business Park to the north, March Road to the east, Campeau Drive to the south and Knudson Avenue & Weslock Way to the west. According to the Canada 2011 Census, the total population of the neighbourhood was 5,182. History Originally known as Kanata, Beaverbook is the first and oldest residential neighbourhood in Kanata. Kanata Lakes also known as Marchwood-Lakeside is a neighbourhood in Kanata North Ward in the west end of the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Morgan's Grant is a suburban neighbourhood located in Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is north of the Kanata North Business Park, west of March Road, and north of Terry Fox Drive. The 2021 Canadian federal election was held on September 20, 2021, to elect members of the House of Commons to the 44th Canadian Parliament. The writs of election were issued by Governor General Mary Simon on August 15, 2021, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau requested the dissolution of parliament for a snap election. Trudeau won a third term as prime minister, his second minority government. Though the Liberals were hoping to win a majority government to govern alone, the results were mostly unchanged from the 2019 Canadian federal election.
